~Scarlett~
•unknown•

My body felt frozen and unknown to me. I felt like my heart was going to squeeze through my ribs and my blood stop its flow.

His arms were still open waiting for me to embrace him. He wiggled his fingers in a playful manner, a smile still on his face.

"Well?" He spoke.

There was no way he could be alive. He should be dead.

"I did not spend this long being 'dead' just for you to stand there and look at me like I am a slobbering twat." He chuckled still looking expectant.

I stood for a second waiting for something to show me that this was real.

However, I wasnot wasting this opportunity.

I latched onto him like I have never done before to a single soul. I felt his arms wrap around my body and everything seemed to be back in motion. The earth started to turn, the wind seemed to blow lightly, the flowers started to bloom and the sun shined just a little bit brighter. It felt right.

My eyes shot open and my breath was caught in my throat.

I am home..in my bed.

I looked around my room with wide eyes, alarmed that he might be here.

I heard laughing in the kitchen and I knew I needed to see someone.

Not caring that I was still in my nightgown, I sprinted down the steps heading straight for the voices.

The first person that came in to sight was my mother. I did not even slow my ice before I wrapped my arms around her middle.

"Scarlett!" She laughed, " What has gotten into you today?"

It took me a moment before I realized she was not yelling at me.

"I-I, uh, I am just happy to see you." I stuttered.

"I can see that." She smiled.

She looks so carefree, so relaxed and more beautiful than I have ever seen her.

Her chestnut hair was down in loose waves and she wore her dark red dress my father had made for her by a woman in town. She was stunning.

"How about you go outside and finish breakfast with your father and brothers."

I started to run outside but I stopped.

Did she say brothers?

I held my breath to try and keep it from increasing.

I slowly opened the door and blocked my eyes from the sun.

"Sweetheart! It is about time you woke up." My father cheered.

"Yeah! I figured you would be a ghost by now. You slept for nearly a day and a half." That voice spoke.

"HOW ARE YOU HERE?" I yelled at him. "YOU DIED IN WAR!"

All three boys looked shocked at my outburst. Damon stood up and went to reach for my shoulders but I backed up before he even got within a foot of me.

"Scar, calm down. Are you alright?" And looked at me with worry in his eyes.

"Do not touch me." I spoke.

"Scarlett." He said.

"You are dead, Damon." I stated calmly but you could still hear the tension in my voice.

"Dead? Scarlett, have you gone mad?" He he laughed nervously.

"I need a moment alone." I said backing away.

"A moment alone? You have been asleep! For a day and a half!" My father fretted quite loudly.

"I just need a few minutes!"

I walked to my room not thinking about where I am going to go. Everything in my head does not make sense. I remember the Sargent coming to our home with Damon's metal and tags saying he was shot in battle. Or maybe I am wrong. Am I?

I did not realize I had changed clothes by the time I was heading to the steps.

Dressed in a black dress and black ballet flats I dashed down the stairs and out the front door and headed to the market.

I looked and felt different. I felt new and reborn. My feet carried me to the small path, a shortcut to the market through the woods.

After a few short minutes, the market came into view. I walked down to the basket cart and pulled out a small basket.
The fresh cherries caught my eye and I put at least a dozen in my basket. The woman selling them smiled kindly at me as I handed over two silver coins.

"Thank you Ms. James."

"No, thank you Mrs. Trem."

I caught myself right after I said it. I have no idea who that woman is! How do I even know her name?

Everything I did seemed like a routine. From picking out the best apples and bundle of carrots to greeting and thanking the sellers.

I started leaving when someone rammed into my shoulder making the basket and myself fall.

"Oh my lord, I am so sorry Miss!" The man rambled. "Here, let me help you."

I ignored his hand and stood, dusting off my dress. He handed my basket back to me and as I was walking away he spoke.

"Scarlett?" He ask.

No. No..no no no!

My blood froze. I whipped around, got one good look at his eyes, dropped my basket, then ran for my life.

"Scarlett!" He screamed. "Are you insane?"

I heard his feet slam against the gravel, he was getting closer by the second.

"Go away!" I yelled furiously.

I was just about to jump over a tree stump when arms secured themselves around my waist.

I flailed and screamed to be let go.

"Scarlett! Honey, stop!" He spoke as calmly as he could with his shortness of breath.

I tried to even my breathing but I just could not help the panic rising even more.

"Just calm down, you are safe." He whispered.

For some reason, it calmed my nerves. His voice calmed me. I relaxed and his arms let go of me one at a time. Not fully but enough for me to turn around in his hold.

He laughed at me once he saw my eyes were squeezed shut. He lightly ran his finger over my lashes and I took that as a signal for me to open them.

I saw him. The real him. He looked different in a way. Like an angel.

"Lucas." I spoke softly.

He looked confused. Did he not know his own name? He put the back of his hand on my forehead and cheek. As if checking for a fever.

"Are you alright?" He questioned. He seemed genuinely worried and it kind of scared me. Something was going on.

He does not question me further he just presses his lips on my head and whispers,

"My name is Nathan."
