It was just another one of those sleepless nights. Glass after glass, he poured himself another shot of whiskey trying to forget what had happened.

He remembered how he accepted his fate when he was pinned down by Steve in Siberia. He was almost certain that his death would be in the hands of someone who he once considered as his team mate or rather, a brother. His suit started to malfunction as Steve kept on slamming his shield at him. Then, it came to a point where Steve finally broke his helmet after several hits at it. Expecting the final blow to go straight to his head, he held his breath and blocked his face with his hands.

It took him a few seconds to register what had happened. He saw Cap's shield right in the middle of his chest where the arc reactor used to be. A shock came over him and was speechless. Tony took a quick glance at his left and saw Steve lying on his back and suffered from numerous wounds and cuts.

After a few seconds, Steve got up, took his shield, and walked straight to Bucky without hesitation. Steve took Bucky's arm and put it around his shoulder for support as they were about to exit the former Hydra base.

What just happened wasn't all that clear to Tony. Rage consumed him, seeing that his former ally chose to stand firmly by a murderer.

"It doesn't belong to you!" Tony spat.

The two friends stopped in their tracks, but none of them looked back.

"You don't deserve it!" Tony tried once more to get Cap to notice him.

Cap dropped his shield and continued walking, and didn't take a second glance at it at all as if it wasn't something that he'd had for all his life.

Now, the Avengers have been torn apart and there was no telling how they could bring them back.

Tony took another sip from his glass and stared straight at what was once Captain America's shield from across the room.
