CHAPTER 9
Carmen’s POV
The blue eyes had me pinned on the cold hard ground. The highlights in his eyes were darker as he was so close to me. He was smiling his boyish charmer smile and my stomach was doing flips as I smiled back at him.
“You will never smile again “said the cold formidable voice.
The air around me grew colder. I was finding the icy air like sharp needles in my lungs. Every breath I drew in or let out felt like knives shredding my insides to pieces. It would be simpler if I just stopped breathing. I held my breath and that’s when I noticed the blue eyes were no longer his, these eyes belonged to her. Her eyes were a lighter shade of blue. They were the color of the ocean which I could hear a few yards away from us. Her eyes were not filled with wisdom as they always used to be; today they were filled with fear and concern. She had her eyes trained on me.
A twinkle caught me in the eye and I turned to see what it was. The light from the bed lamp on the night stand had caught the silver of the blade. The blade was curved beautifully at the end and the hilt was dark wood with a bit of ivory and it had intricate carvings. The blade looked sinfully sharp and dangerous. The man holding the hilt flashed me his pearly whites. A cold shiver ran down my spine. The man didn’t look human, his eyes possessed a dark hunger in them and he looked like a sinister creature from far far away, probably from hell.
The creature trailed the blade from her toes all the way up her body to the nape of her neck. The blade must have been cold because she shivered. Her satin night gown was slashed in few places because of his blade.
“Carmen honey, come on Car just look into my eyes. Darling just look into my eyes.”
I tore my eyes away from the creature’s shiny blade and met her eyes. Her eyes were smiling a sad smile. Her pretty face was streaked with her tear stains.
The creature let out a cold high pitched laugh.
“I think the little bitch likes my blade better” said the creature as he continued to laugh. I cringed at the sound of his laughter and this made him laugh more. He flexed his hand a bit and a trickle of her red blood found its way to the floor between her and me. I tried to move but something restricted the movement of my limbs. I wanted to scream but I couldn’t find my voice. My shivering grew worse.
“Please please Car, don’t see this. Close your eyes baby. Car baby listen to me. Close your eyes tightly. Don’t open them until you hear your father’s voice.”
I heard her plead and saw her. There was a pool of her blood on the floor. I shut my eyes as tightly as I could.
I heard every sound the monsters blade made. He was slashing at her and laughing all the while. She was screaming but she was trying to keep it down for my sake. She was thinking of me even at her worst moment, last moment. Finally, she stopped. There were no screams, no blade; I couldn’t even hear her breathe. There was only the roaring of the ocean in the background.
“Mom?” I whispered.
No reply.
A sob escaped me. I had found my voice, “MOM” I screamed and threw my eyes open. I saw the monster standing at my feet. His face and clothes were covered in her blood; from the corner of my eye I could see her lying motionless beside me. A lone tear escaped my eye. The monster smiled again. He took a stride towards me. He caught the front of my night gown and pulled me towards him. The restraints on my hands and legs cut my skin. I could smell her blood on him and my stomach churned.
“Carmen, you’re not ready darling. I’ll be back when you’re ready. But until then remember me by this.” He promised pointing to my mother’s lifeless body.
