"What am I supposed to do with these?" Nico asked.

His sister, Hazel just showed up at his door bearing two movie tickets. She claimed that she bought them online this morning for her and her boyfriend, but then Frank got sick and they decided not to go.

Hazel shrugged, "Go see it. Bring a friend."

"Bring a friend to a romantic comedy?" Nico said.

"You could always go with Will," Hazel suggested innocently.

"You could always shut up," Nico shot back. He'd had a crush on his friend, Will, for months, and Hazel knew it. Will, however, didn't.

Hazel laughed, "Whatever. You'll figure it out. I gotta go check on Frank." And with that, she shoved the tickets into Nico's hands and left.

Nico glanced at the tickets and sighed. Maybe he should just go with Will. Friends go to the movies with friends all the time. Surely Will wouldn't think it meant anything more. Or maybe he will and maybe today will be the day everything goes right for once, Nico thought, the words swirling around his mind before he pushed them out. It was no using hoping like that.

Still, he picked up his phone and called his friend - he had always preferred calling to texting.

Will answered almost immediately, "Hi, Nico. What's up?"

"My sister was going to go see a movie with her boyfriend but then he got sick so she gave me their tickets. She said I should bring a friend," Nico explained, making sure to stress the word friend, "Wanna come?"

"Sure." Will said.

"Cool. It starts in about an hour. I'll meet you there?" said Nico.

"Sounds like a plan." Will agreed.

"Awesome." Nico said before hanging up.

He caught sight of himself in the reflective surface of his phone and wiped the ridiculous smile off his face. Talking with Will always left him grinning like an idiot, even a simple little conversation.

---

An hour and a half later they were sitting next to each other, a little bit of the way through the movie. Nico had never liked comedies, he got second hand embarrassment too easily, but he loved hearing Will laugh. With a glance at Will now, Nico realized they were a lot closer to each other than they were when the movie started, but he said and did nothing. If anything, he shifted a little closer.

Somewhere around halfway through the film, their hands had become intertwined. Nico couldn't remember exactly who had grabbed whose hand first...in fact he couldn't quite focus on anything in that moment. All he could feel was Will's hand in his.

With great difficulty, he managed to bring his focus back to the movie. A character on screen had just done something incredibly stupid and Nico couldn't help but outwardly cringe this time. Will laughed again and Nico realized he was laughing at him. Nico blushed, prompting another chuckle from Will.

Then, barely half an hour later, something amazing happened. The two main characters had just begun kissing on screen when Nico suddenly felt Will's lips on his own. His eyes widened in surprise, but the shock only lasted less than a fraction of a second before he relaxed into Will's kiss.

"I know you said friends, but when you took my hand, I thought..." Will said when he pulled away.

Oh so I was the one who grabbed his hand first, Nico thought, Of course I was. Out loud, he said with a smile, "You thought completely right."

Nico spent the remainder of the movie with his head resting on Will's shoulder. He still couldn't quite believe what had just happened.

"Am I dreaming? I must be dreaming." Nico said once the movie ended, walking out of the theater - hand in hand with Will.

Will, with his free hand, pinched Nico's arm. Nico yelped, "Ow! Okay, not dreaming."

---

But that night when he was dreaming, his dreams were bright, for the first time in a long time, and he fell asleep with a smile on his face.
