Nico wasn't doing well. He wasn't in the best mental state. And there was no reason for it. His life was better than it had ever been before. He had friends and a wonderful boyfriend. He should be happy. And yet he couldn't shake this depression.

There was a constant feeling of hopelessness and apathy. Like nothing mattered. Like what's the point of being happy now if inevitably you'll be unhappy later?

And hanging out with his friends and the people he loved only made it worse. He couldn't understand why any of them liked him when he couldn't think of a single likable thing about himself. It made him realize just how much he hated himself.

So he found himself avoiding everyone, just like he used to.

His boyfriend, Will, was getting worried. But every time he tried to talk to him, Nico would say that he was fine and mutter some excuse before leaving.

Will didn't know what to do. His mind went to the worst possible situation every time.

"For the millionth time, Will, I'm fine." Nico rolled his eyes when Will tried to talk to him again.

Nico turned to walk away and Will snapped. He grabbed his boyfriend's arm to stop him from leaving this time. "You're clearly not fine, Nico. Talk to me." He demanded.

Nico glanced at Will's hand on his arm before looking at his face. There was so much concern in his eyes. Nico looked at the ground instead. "Why do you care?" He asked, his voice not mean or rude, but quiet.

Will blinked like he couldn't believe Nico just asked that, like the answer should've been obvious. "Because I'm your boyfriend and I'm worried about you. Because I love you."

Nico knew he was being selfish. He knew he probably should've apologized then and told Will that he loved him too. But he couldn't stop himself from asking again, "Why?" and he couldn't stop himself from continuing, "Why do you love me, Will? What is there to love about me? I'm messed up and worthless."

Will realized he was still holding Nico's arm and he let go, taking his hands instead. "We're all messed up, but nobody's worthless so please don't talk about yourself like that. You're sweet when you want to be and strong when you have to be and you're intelligent and cute and you make me smile and those are only a few reasons why I love you."

"Thank you," Nico said after a few seconds of silence. While it obviously didn't go away immediately, Nico did feel a little bit better. "I...I needed that."

"Yeah, I could tell." Will said, "Was that the only thing bothering you?"

"No," Nico answered honestly, "I've just been a little...off lately, I guess."

"You know I'm a doctor, right? I can help more." Will told him.

"I know. I don't know, maybe I need help," Nico said but his thoughts were beginning to spiral again and he added, "But right now I just need to get out of my head. I need a distraction."

To Will's surprise, Nico pulled him closer and kissed him roughly. It worked just like Nico knew it would. As soon as their lips touched, all Nico's negative thoughts scattered, focusing instead on the feeling of Will.

And, hey, Will wasn't complaining, especially if it was helping Nico.
