The following Friday, Cali and Mason went on their date. They had a wonderful time and agreed to go on another, and another, and another. Soon enough they were seeing each other everyday. The more they spent time together the closer Mason grew to Cali. Soon enough he even believed he loved her. He had completely forgot about his previous passion. He never wanted to harm Cali. She was amazing and sweet. She was radiant and caring. He was falling for her.
He pondered this one day as they were driving to his house. He watched her eyes glisten as they flicked from mirror to mirror. He watched as the wind from the window threw her hair around. He watched the sun hit her glistening skin. He watched her in all of her glory, caught off guard by the romantic attachment growing within him. She made him feel unlike he had ever felt before. As he watched her, gazing onto the road, he realized how much he wanted nothing but to make her happy.
Biting her lip, she watched from the corner of her eyes as he continued to stare. She thought about how his bold eyes felt on her. It made her feel empowered and valued.
She bit her lip again trying to hold off a grin. She straightened her expression, looking ahead. "What do you see?" She asked. Taken off guard he let out a , "huh?" "You keep staring at me, what do you see?" She asked confidently. He smirked, dumbfounded. What could he say? Beautiful? Smart? Cunning? No, these were all to simple for her. The truth was, there were no words to describe what he saw when he looked at her. "I don't know, I'm trying to figure that out." he stated simply. She grinned and looked him in the eye. "Good luck with that," she stated looking back at the road. "You've never seen anything like me before." As the words left her mouth, Mason knew in his heart it was true. He tilted his curious head trying to figure out how such a 'plain-Jane' was so incredibly different and lovely.
They sat in silence for the next few minutes until they arrived. They walked hand in hand inside. This was the first time Cali had been inside the house. Her curious eyes wandered around the front room. There was a small, but open living area that oped up to a dining room and kitchen. Mason walked to the fridge and offered her a drink. She declined as she wandered around the walls admiring the photos on the wall. Many of them were of a beautiful forest with trees and roses. "These are beautiful photographs," Cali said, admiring the professionalism of them. "Thank you, I took them myself and had them blown up on canvas." "That's amazing," she smiled enthusiastically, "your very talented. Where were they taken?" "Behind my house." Mason said walking towards the sliding glass door. He pulled the curtains back and sun light poured into the room. The house was humble but the yard was huge! Woods seemed to stretch for miles. Cali's eyes lit up at the sight. "May I?" She asked gesturing towards the yard. "Go ahead." He responded thrilled by her excitement. He followed her out and watched her explore. After a few minutes Mason glanced at his watch, " we need to leave soon to make it to the theater in time." He called out to Cali. Cali looked up as a suspicious grin stretched across her face. Mason curiously tilted his head watching her stride towards him. She continued to stride towards him until they're bodies were touching. Mason continued to watch, not budging. Cali lifted up on her tip-toes and brought her mouth close to his ear, "You'll have to catch me first." She whispered and suddenly bolted off towards the woods. Masons eyes brightened at her child like demeanor. As she entered the wooded fortress his expression suddenly fell and his eyes darkened remembering what lie beyond the trees. The graves.
