Chapter 2: Surprise, Surprise.
I went home alone, promising Tristan I'd meet him at my street corner after I got ready for our adventure. My dad wasn't home yet, so I went upstairs and quickly texted him. I'll be home before 10 love ya.
I went into my closet and found my faded jeans, my pink Beatles shirt, my checkered jacket and my wallet. I saw my cat peeking at me from her window seat.
I was putting on my Jacket and my medium sized backpack as I sprinted down the road until I got to the corner. Tristan was there already. "Sorry if I took long." I said. "Nah I got here at least 30 seconds ago." He chuckled. "So, where are we going?" I asked. "I'm going to show you what I do in my spare time."He said, grabbing my hand and walking quietly a couple blocks down.
We arrived at an old Masaleum type building.
"What....?"I said, looking around at the old structured building. The front looked like it was just built and there were lit torches side by side on the door.
"This is what I do." he said smirking.
I didn't really understand him. He walked up to the door, and knocked in a series of times. The door creaked open. "Cmon, Skye." He said pulling me with him into the building, until a boy about his age walked out and stood in front of me, and glared hard at me.
"She's with me, Chris." Tristan said to him.
My eyes were wide with fear and outrage. I was breathing a little too fast, because his face was closer than I thought.
Chris kneeled until he was eye level with me, and trailed his nose, slowly, up my neck all the way to my cheek before pulling away.
"She smells like fear," he stated, narrowing his eyes at me."Don't let her wander around here, she could get hurt," he said mockingly. "Her Golden eyes all wide with fear." He smirked.
"T-tristan," I squeeked out in a whisper.
Tristan pushed me behind him and got in Chris's face. "She's.With. Me. Brother"
Chris casted one more death glare at me and finally moved out of the way. I narrowed my eyes at Chris when Tristan led me down the hallway of the building.
Tristan came closer to me and rubbed my shoulders. He said, "Sorry about that, they're kinda secretive about this stuff."
"Could've guessed that." I said breathlessly.
"C'mon the party is just about to start." , he said.
We walked down the hall until we got to another door, Tristan placed his palm upon the part of the wood with a circle on it and the door glowed slightly, and then popped open. I heard voices inside.
"Tristan, will you please tell me where we are now? I mean, after that little incident, I should at least be able to know where I am." I stated, looking him in the eyes and touching his arm.
"Don't worry Skye, I wont let them hurt you. Just let me show you what I do here first, before I tell you where you are." He said to me surely.
"Fine." I grumbled and folded my arms across my chest. He chuckled briefly at my pouting.
We walked through the wide oak doors. I widened my eyes and gasped.
Wow. I thought. There was a large room, about the size of an arena in front of me. There were people everywhere, torches all the way around the walls, and there were men and women talking to each other. They were in groups.
One ,two, three. Three groups.
Heavy curtains were hailing most of the space on the walls, which impossibly made it look more like a roman olympic arena, the hard marble floors had symbols twisting around like snakes on the ground. There was no ceiling, only stars. Torches along the walls lit up the room. In the corner was a statue of a greek goddess named Gaia. The very center had a huge firepit, an entrancing flame colored blue and green danced inside it.
It was absolutely breathtaking.
"What exactly do you do here?" I said ,still staring around in awe.
"I'm kind of like a council member, we each have a secret power we were picked specifically for the groups, the rarest are usually the kinds they pick. Mine is Soul Reading. They say its rare."
"You soul read? Like see into peoples hearts? Or psychic like me?" Wow, Tristan was cooler than I thought. Why wouldn't he tell me this?
"No, I see into their very essence and look at it, all I have to do is look into their eyes."
"Tristan! Thats awsome!" I said looking at him, grinning.
My smile faded, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I didnt want to scare you off."
I was surprised as he spoke again.
"Not everyones soul is beautiful, shining , I've seen none like yours. A lot of people have black hearts, and do not care what other people think, about murder and crime. It's quite sad really." he finished solemnly.
The way he looked right now, how sad yet anxious, made me feel warm inside. His eyes met mine and locked.I knew he was reading my soul or maybe just looking.
I just got lost in his eyes....
"Hey, the ritual is starting." The guy named Chris said, walking past us and going to stand in the center of the circle floor. Winking at me.
I rolled my eyes at him and Tristan took my hand and went with everyone else to sit by the fire. We sat down and saw a man step forward in front of the fire.
He had dark brown hair, brown eyes, and a heavy velvet cloak on.
"The ritual we are about to preform, is not to be shared by anyone," he caught sight of me.
"Who is this?" he said, pointing at me with his long, pale finger.
