Chapter 3: The Ritual Begins.
"She is my friend, David." Tristan said quietly.
"Why is she here?" David said, narrowing his eyes at me. The brown in them semed to teem with curiousity, even though the scornful look that twisted his face said otherwise.
"She's here to see our ways, not to spy, but to learn.I can't keep this from her anymore." Tristan said.
The way he said it almost stung, knowing that he's been keepingthis from me for I don't even know how long. I don't expect Tristan to tell me every last DETAIL of his dark secrets, but he can at least cut me some slack and not leave me clueless when he randomly decides to bring me to them.
I kept my eyes downcast, looking at the rim of the firepit and watching the flames lick the logs and go higher.
David looked at me and said "She's Psychic?" he said, more of a statement then a question.
My jaw dropped to the floor. How the hell did he know that?! Then I remembered what Tristan said about everyone having a cool power. Maybe David's was something like special intuition.
David looked me in the eyes and said," Tell us your name, and we will do a ritual to welcome you," he smirked and said loudly, "The Ritual has changed, we are now doing a welcoming ceremony for our new little friend."
This David's attitude changed by the drop of a hat, and suddenly the regretful scowl turned into a face of an old friend, a guardian, someone who you cant help but smile at. If his emotions continue to act like a pendulum and swing constantly, he must be a very clever person.
So am I.
I glanced at Tristan, and told me "It's ok, David won't hurt you."
"Okay" I said, taking a deep breath, gathering what little will I have around these strangers and their curious eyes.
I stood up.
I said, "My name is Skye Blossom and this is my first time being here." I said.
A man questioned cynically, "What is your ability?" as if doubting me he added a wave of his hand. A dismissal.
"I'm Psychic." I said quietly.
There was a hum of whisper in the air when I said 'Psychic'.
"Excellent. Take her to get ready for the ritual." David said. Two men came forward and took my backpack and my jacket off of my back.
"Hey!" I said, ready to run after them.
I just met these people, gave them my name and now they're undressing me? But a woman came forward and took me down a hall, along with Tristan. The woman went into a room and came out with a bundle of fabric, soundlessly handed it to me and pushed me and Tristan into a room and closed the door. The torches were lit in here, but very dimly, and there was a curtain hung across the corner, a changing room I guessed.
"Go ahead." Tristan said and went to the corner to hide his eyes. I couldn't help but smile at that action.
I went to the changing room and once inside, I unfolded the fabric and really looked at the dress.
