Betta fish are one of the most mistreated pet fish you can find in stores. Most of the time you will find them tucked about in the corner of a shelf in a tiny cup. These cups will normally have polluted waters and will be unheated. The fish themselves will normally be under fed, and suffering or dying of many different dieases. That is why I have created this book. It will be to inform people about their bettas so they won't have to suffer. First let's talk about their orgins. It goes all the way back to Tialand where they lived in rice
patties. Many people belive that these rice patties are puddles when in fact they are huge bodies of water that stretch over 100 of miles. The Betta fish was never origanlly as colourful or as fancy as the bettas we have now
they were in fact normally black or brown with very short fins. It was selective breeding that made them the way they are now. Betta fish are carnivores so they eat meat, not plants. Bettas also have a special organ called the labyrinth organ. Which means they breath air. Next is two male bettas will fight to the death if kept together. However femals can be kept in a group of 6 or more in a ten gallon tank at the minuim. Lastly betta fish can jump really high in the air. Meaning you need to have a lid on their tanks to prevent them from jumping out. The next chapter will be about appropriate tanks sizes and what you need in their tanks. So stay tuned.
