I'm trying to finish posting at least these but I've been doing making whatever this since 2014 holy suit time flies by ok whatevs byeeeeYou never really understood why you had an affinity for fish. Whenever you were around fish or any type of sea creature, they were very attentive of you, like they were listening to you and liked being around you. They wouldn't be afraid of you and neared you and allowed you to touch them. It was something that no one could explain, but you didn't mind, because it made you unique.
You were at the beach, just gazing out to the ocean as you played with the shell pendant around your neck, just thinking of all the fun you have had here. You have always lived near this beach, and some of your best memories were at this beach. But you also remembered that one time nearly drowned as a child but thankfully someone came to your rescue. Unfortunately, you couldn't remember much of what happened that day, but you knew that it was a boy around your age, but you never saw your savior afterwards to give him a proper thank you.
You looked out to the water and knew that you needed to swim, the ocean always called you. So kicking off your sandals, you ran across the sand and jumped into the ocean. The moment your body was in the water, you felt so at ease. You gently floated in the water just gazing up at the sky that was changing from a grayish blue to colors of orange and red, meaning that the sunset was approaching.
You were greeted by fish like always, feeling small fish swimming near your hair, making you laugh. You moved your hands feeling them swim near there wanting to be pet by you. You decided to swim, but in the distance you could have sworn you saw a boy staring at you. But as you focused your eyes on the figure, it retreated underwater and saw a large tail fin, so maybe you were just seeing things.
It was getting late and you knew that you had to head home soon, so doing a flip underwater you, turned back and headed to shore. You ran to your house, which thankfully wasn't far from the beach, but as you quickly pulled your hair back, you noticed that you lacked something.
Your necklace was missing. You began to panic a bit, that necklace has been with you since you were little, and had never taken it off unless to change the chain that it was on. It reminded you of your favorite place in the world, the beach. You wanted to go back into the ocean and look for your missing pendant because it was just that precious to you. But you knew that it was ridiculous to try to look for it, because if it is in the ocean, it might as well be long gone. However that still didn't stop you from retracing your steps, your eyes scanning all over the sand, hoping that your necklace would be somewhere among the sand and not who knows how deep in the ocean.
You didn't find it, meaning it was in the ocean. You wanted to jump into the ocean to find it but you couldn't because the sun was setting, but maybe you could come back tomorrow and see if you could find your necklace.
———————————————————-
The next day you were running to the beach early in the morning, earlier than most people would even consider getting out, so at least you wouldn't look like a weirdo as you would frantically look on the beach and ocean for your necklace.
You were running along the shore when you noticed something lying on the sand. You approached the figure in the sand and saw that it was a boy with bleach blonde hair... with a dark blue tail that was slowly becoming black tail that started at his hips.
You ran over to the figure and saw that he was fainted; he was sweating making his hair stick to his forehead. What were you going to do? Your body began to panic, was he dead? No, you could see that he was struggling to breathe, but how would you help him breathe? You looked to the ocean; of course, he needed to go back to the water. He was a fish out of water.
You were right in front of him, and noticed that he was actually quite attractive, his jawline strong and definite, he had such rosy plump lips that you just stared at them longer than you should have, and his torso toned, most likely from swimming all day in the ocean, and inked bands on his skin, making you wonder what they stood for, if they were marks of his people or something else.
You reached for his hand hoping that you would be strong enough to pull him to the ocean, which was a bit far, making you wonder how he even ended up on the shore. Your hands began to pull him to the water startling him awake, making the blue in his tail turn yellow.
"Let me go", the merman stated as he began to flail around wanting you to let go, and his tail starting to go crazy, but he never dared to hit you at all, which you gladly appreciated.
"Hold on I'm trying to help you", you said as you were pulling him to the ocean, you were so close, but you were getting tired, not used to pulling a merman to the ocean, or pulling anything quite this heavy at all.
"Help me?" he said confused, and a bit raspy, most likely from not being in the water, as the yellow in his tail was turning into blue again and the black slowly growing as well. That mustn't be a good thing.
"Yea, just a bit more", you said already feeling small waves hitting the back of your ankles, but it still wasn't deep for him to swim away.
But you were already tired feeling your arms begin to ache. You couldn't pull him anymore and had to let go of his hand and take a break to ease the dull ache in your arms. They were burning not used to the strain that you were putting them through, but you had to get him back in the water, because who knows when people would start showing up on the beach, and they might not react the same way you did. You noticed that the blonde merman was drinking the ocean water, obviously dehydrated from being away from the ocean, and the black in his tail was starting to fade a bit, but not entirely. You had to think of something to get him back in the water that wouldn't tire you so easily, and then you knew what to do.
"Would you mind if I roll you to the ocean?" you said hesitantly.
"Roll me, like a beached whale?" he said taking a bit offense.
"I guess, but we have to hurry, people like to do early beach runs", you said quickly going to his side.
"Then what are you waiting for?" he said as he tried to roll himself as well, which was a bit hard for him to do, but at least it helped.
This should have been your approach from the start, because at least this wasn't as tiring. You rolled him into the ocean and panicked a bit when he was underwater, but you remembered that he shouldn't have a problem breathing underwater. You noticed that the black in his tail was completely gone and only left a beautiful blue color in its place.
When the water was up to your knees you realized that you couldn't push him further, without waves making water go into your nose and apologized as you began pushing him with your legs. You were at chest level with the water, when he could comfortably swim underneath the water. He surfaced, water droplets hanging off the tips of his hair and others rolling down his chest, making him look far more attractive than before, making your cheeks blush as you thought of how attractive he was.
"Thanks, the name is Michael", he said with a smile.
"(Y/N)", you responded, "and no problem, but why were you on the shore to begin with?"
"Um... to see you", he said shyly.
Your cheeks went red at his words. You felt your heart speed up as he stated those words. There weren't many people that admitted that to you so out of the blue, so this took you by surprise. You looked down to the water, not wanting to look up at his green eyes, and saw the lower half of his tail was slowly becoming green like color.
"Uh..." you said not knowing how to respond, and tried to find what you were going to say.
"I know that sounds weird but I was near the shore waiting for you to come back to give you this", he said as you noticed that in this hand was your shell necklace. It was still intact, you had completely forgotten about it the moment that you saw Michael lying on the shore, so close to dying. "But a strong wave came out of nowhere and pushed me to shore, and I couldn't get back", he said trying not to sound lame that he was pushed out of the water, "so here you go".
He reached for your hand and felt a spark the moment his skin made contact with yours; he gently placed the necklace in the palm of your hand. Michael gently closed your hand making sure that you wouldn't lose your necklace again.
By now you were blushing madly and noticed that fish were surrounding you, like they normally do, but Michael was a bit shocked at seeing this, but a slight grin to his face.
"Are they always doing this?" he said gesturing to the fish.
"Yea, ever since I was a kid, every time I'm near a fish they surround me, can you help me understand why they do that. I mean you can communicate to fish, right?" you asked hoping that it wouldn't offend him.
"Umm, I can't communicate to fish. But that's weird; they shouldn't go near a human. They are always surrounding us, but never a human", he said continued looking at the fish.
"Well I'm not a mermaid", you said more confused than ever.
"I couldn't tell", he said with sarcasm, "have you ever been kissed by a merman?" he asked nonchalantly and with a smirk.
Your heart skipped a beat. Why was he asking you that? Was he going to kiss you or something? He looked puzzled at you, waiting for you to answer.
"No", you answered.
"You really don't remember then?" he asked a bit hurt.
"Remember what?" you asked.
"We were both kids when you fell into the ocean and I saved you. You were crying and I couldn't make you stop crying at all, and did the only thing that I could think of and kissed you. It made you stop crying but I guess kissing you made you a bit like me", he stated.
This was the boy that saved you long ago. He was the boy that pulled you to shore, the boy that you desperately tried to find so you could thank him. But what you couldn't get passed was that this boy was your first kiss, and you didn't even know it. Those plump pink lips of his had touched yours, and you couldn't even remember it.
"Oh, well thank you for saving me Michael ", you said shyly.
"It's no big deal, and I should thank you too (Y/N). I mean you saved me from either dying or being taken to who knows where if someone else found me" he said with a smile as his tail was now a mixture of green and pink, which didn't actually look that bad on him.
You two continued to thank each other, and spent most of the day at the beach. He told you stories of the sea and you casually listening and giving your own comments. He told you of an underwater cave that was actually near here, and you immediately wanted to visit it. He gladly took you, holding you in his arms as he took you below the water quickly so you wouldn't drown and also because your arms were sore. He showed you many more things underwater, because he loved how much you loved his world. He was amazed that a human found his world so beautiful, and loved how much you said you wish you were a merperson, so you could explore the ocean, something he never thought a human would ever say and also wished that you were a mermaid too.
By the end of the day, he took you back near the shore and told you that if you ever want to see him, to just shout out his name and he would be there as quickly as he can. He watched you go back home and retreated back to the ocean but looked down at his tail and noticed that his rainbow scales were a bright vivid red. His eyes widened as he looked at them, they were never red, and tried to remember what that color stood for. Green meant shy and nervous, blue was normal, black was sick and unwell, pink was happy, yellow was panicked and scared, but was red?
Then it hit him, he remembered what red stood for. Red meant love. Michael Clifford fell in love with human, someone that wasn't a part of his world.
Michael really thought that over time his tail would change color back to its normal ocean blue color, like it usually was...but it never did. It was still red, a vivid red, and soon even his hair changed to red as well. He knew that you were the reason for this. Among his people, their tails would change color based on their emotions, and among his kind red was the color of love, and you were the one that he fell in love with.
He needed to see you, but he didn't know how you were going to react when you saw him. Just the other day when you met him his hair was blonde, but now it was red. What were you going to think, would you figure out that his tail and hair were red because of the love that he felt for you? He hoped that you wouldn't because he wasn't sure if you were going to approve of his feelings, because even if he didn't care that you were human, he wasn't sure that you approved of him loving you. He didn't care about you being human, because to him you were the person that completed him. And if there was one thing that life has taught him, was that love came in all shapes and forms, and his love came in the shape of a human, a human that was you.
Michael waited on the surface of the sea, waiting for you to show up, you told him that you would visit, but so far it's been three days and you have yet to show up to see him. He decided that he needed to take an underwater swim to calm his nerves, trying to drown out his mind with the calmness of the undersea currents, but the only thing that it did was make him think of you.
He remembered that he kissed you once when you were both kids, and it was because of that innocent kiss that you gained the affinity with the underwater creatures. But he wished he could to the same again, to feel your lips pressed against his. You were the only person that he has kissed, and he wanted it to be only person that you pressed your lips against too.
Michael thought that if he kissed you again, you would gain another mermaid gift, like the ability to swim swiftly through the water, or the ability to withstand the coldness of the water, but deep down he hoped that if he kissed you again... you would gain the very thing that made you and him different. He hoped that his kiss could grant you the ability of a tail, a tail just like his. A tail that would also grant you a lifetime of happiness and joy with him, should you give him the chance to do prove that to you.
He was swimming casually when he saw a unique brightly colored school of fish swimming past him to the shore. Those type of fish rarely approached the shore, but once he thought about it, he knew exactly why they did that. They were drawn to you. You were in the ocean.
Michael turned his gaze up to where the school of fish were swimming to, and sure enough if he slightly squinted his eyes, he could see a pair of legs and arms that were swimming out to the ocean. He knew that it was you; there was no way that he could mistake you, especially as he saw small fish swim with you.
He smiled at seeing you, and he could hear you calling out to him, he looked down at his tail, and sure enough it seemed redder than before... if that was even possible. He couldn't hold off seeing you any longer and then swam up to the surface as quickly as he could.
You were swimming yelling out Michael's name hoping that he would hear you. The small fish that were swimming near you went up to the surface and then swam down, almost as if trying to get your attention to look down, but you ignored them, because you wanted to place your focus on finding Michael. You wondered if he was even still here. He had the choice to swim to any ocean that he wanted to, surely there had to be an ocean better than yours, so why would he stay here?
You looked back and saw that you were a bit far from land, which you wondered if was safe to go any further into the ocean, but the moment that you thought of going back, something or rather someone splashed water on your face.
You looked and Michael was there with a smile on his face, but what stuck out was that his hair was as red, "I didn't know that merpeople could dye their hair", you said as you swam to be right in front of him to touch his newly colored hair.
"Die?" not really familiar with the term, "humans kill their hair?" not really knowing the difference between the terms.
"Not that kind of die, I mean color, humans can change their hair color too, but with a certain product, didn't know merpeople could too", you said as you started to feel a bit sore in your arms from swimming.
"oh, no our people can change hair colors at times based on their color of their tail, but it doesn't happen often, we don't willingly change it", he said hoping you wouldn't ask what makes it change color. "But that's really cool that human can change their hair color too!" he said with amazement in his voice.
Michael could see that small discomfort on your face and guessed that the reason for it was your arms, since you were hardly trying to move them, just enough to keep you floating. He swam closer to you and immediately closed the distance between the two of you, as he snaked his arms around your waist, holding you up so you no longer had to do it yourself. Your cheeks immediately heated up at feeling his arms around you. They were strong and warm and just wanted to spend hours in his arms if you could, you hesitantly placed your hands around his neck to better hold yourself up, locking your hands behind him and feeling the ends of his hair brushing against the back of your hand.
Now it was his turn to blush. Michael looked lazily into your eyes, wishing that you could feel the same for him, like what he did for you. He wanted to kiss you so badly; he had kissed you before as a child, but this time he wanted to do it again for a different reason. Back then he kissed you could be quiet, but this time he wanted to do it, so he could show you that he loved you, that you were the reason his hair and tail were red, that you were the reason for his beating heart pounding against his chest at breakneck speeds. And you were also the reason that Michael was a bit heart broken, since he knew that a relationship with you would never really last, because you had legs and he had a tail.
But what he didn't know was that in such a short time of knowing him, Michael had grown on you. He slowly made his way into your heart and it seemed like he wasn't leaving anytime soon, you were never really one to fall for someone so quickly, but he was the exception. He made you believe that people could fall for each other with just a simple glance. But you wondered if he felt the same for you.
"Hey do you want to see an underwater cave?" he asked wanting to get rid of any awkward silence that showed up.
"Umm... sure", wanting to do anything as long as it involved Michael being with you.
You took your hands off his neck and immediately Michael wanted to place your hands back around his neck, enjoying the feel of your soft hands brushing against the skin of his neck and the soft hair there. He wanted to feel that small affection again, since it was something he had never received from anyone, and wouldn't want it from anyone besides you. He wanted to feel you in his arms and his in yours longer, for an eternity if you permitted it.
"Don't you want me to hold you there?" he said still not letting go of you.
"no its fine, besides I like to swim remember?" you said as you began your breathing exercises to get used to the feeling of holding your breath longer because you were unsure how long you would need to hold your breath for.
"But what if you..."
"Its fine Michael, but if I need help I know that you will help, I mean you did rescue me before", you said with a smile still practicing.
"fine" he agreed, "but go get goggles or something, and remember if you need to breathe tell me, I don't care if you have to send a school of dolphin to attack me, but you better let me know", he said with his voice laced with worry, because the last thing he wanted was for you to be put in danger.
You agreed to everything and went to shore, to reach for your bag for a pair of goggles for you to see underwater. But it still didn't ease Michael at all. He wanted to hold you as he would show you the underwater cave that led to a secluded beach, because he knew that he could swim fast enough that you could easily hold your breath and have time to spare. Plus it would give him a reason to hold you longer, which is something that he really wanted to do. But Michael couldn't convince you to reconsider, since you were already swimming back to him with your goggles already placed on you, and ready to explore the underwater cave.
"Are you sure I can't swim you there, I don't want you to tire yourself, and what if you can't hold your breath that long", he said looking down and seeing the tip of his tail slowly becoming yellow, he was panicking because he didn't want you to get hurt or drown.
"I'll be fine Michael, and that's why I have you", you said with a smile, "shall we get going then, I'll be right behind you".
He nodded and explained that you needed to follow him down to a nearby cliff and then dive straight down and follow him to an opening. You agreed and swam over to the cliff and he then began to tell you around where you should swim. And then you dived down to the ocean.
You began to swim down and felt fine, you were accompanied by fish, leading the way to the cave that Michael was mentioning. It was so weird following Michael, because you could clearly see his tail. It still surprised you how he wasn't human, how he wasn't wearing a really great costume, but actually a merman. Something that you thought was just a legend, but here swimming in front of you was all the proof that you needed.
"You alright (Y/N)?" he asked clearly despite being underwater.
You nodded concentrating on not breathing, because although the cave wasn't that far, you didn't want to risk losing your concentration and releasing your breath. But despite practicing to hold your breath for long periods of time, you could already starting to feel your lungs and chest constrict wanting to release your breath, and get a new breath of fresh air. You could feel your lungs burning, but pushed through because you could start to see the opening of the underwater cove.
Your lungs were aching, they needed a new breath of air, and no amount of concentration could make the ache dull or go away. You began to look up and noticed that you couldn't make to the surface in time; you began to flail, not even thinking about how to get Michael's attention.
Michael started to see the fish going into a frenzy and knew that something was wrong. He looked behind him and saw that you were struggling, holding your nose and mouth. He knew that you were struggling to breathe. He quickly swam to you, and looked up to see if he could swim you up to the surface fast enough. His tail started to turn yellow with the fear that he realized that he couldn't swim you up fast enough.
He looked down at you, his green eyes boring into yours, trying to figure out what he could do to help. And only one thing could come to mind, he would have to breathe for you. He took in a breath, being able to take the oxygen from water itself and pressed his lips against yours. He forcibly opened your mouth to allow him to give you air. You breathed out through your nose, and accepted the oxygen from him. You felt his breath enter you, instantly feeling the ache in your chest lessen and felt the warmth of his breath travel down to your lungs. You looked into his eyes and saw that his eyes were signaling to close your mouth and you did. He took in another breath and this time gently reached for your face, and this time you willingly opened your mouth the moment his lips pressed against yours. He ended the small kiss leaving a small chaste kiss on your lips. You opened your mouth to let out a sigh, and immediately waited for water to fill your lungs to drown you, but nothing came.
You breathed normally and looked at Michael, and saw that his eyes were widened with shock.
"Michael?" you said clearly.
"you can breathe underwater?" he asked, then he placed everything together, "the kiss gave you another power" he said with a smile.
"I guess", you said getting used to the feeling of water in your mouth while talking.
"Good because now I can do this", he said with a smirk as he his hands wrapped around your waist pulling you close.
He immediately leaned down to kiss you. His mouth molding against yours with an almost hungry passion. He thought that you were going push him away, but instead you welcomed it, you kissed him in return, lifting yourself wanting to kiss him harder. Michael couldn't have been happier, you accepted him not caring what he was, and he was ecstatic. Even if you were human, he wondered if maybe if he kept kissing you, you would end up with a mermaid tail, but he didn't care because the feel of your lips against his was worth it. And who knows maybe you would end up with a tail sooner than either of you thought, since it seems that the both of you were now addicted to kissing each other.
