He waited a few seconds. "Maybe looking into an academy would be easier, if writing is something that you just wanted to focus on. Or architecture, which ever one," he added that last part quickly. I smiled.
"Thanks for the tip. How about you? Did you go to college?" I asked. Josh seemed to be hesitant, and he shifted in his seat uneasily. This question seemed to keep him tongue tied.

"I um... I didn't go to college either," he said quickly. I just nodded."Do you have any idea what you wanna do? When you go back?" I asked, curious in his own 'story.'
He seemed to be quiet again. It wasn't till now that it dawned on me that I had no idea what his age was. Since he wasn't going to reply, "How old are you?" I asked.
He seemed to let out a breathe of relief. He lifted his legs up and placed them back down after he stretched them out. "I'm 26," he replied a little quiet.
What? I wasn't shocked that he was 5 years older, but since he hasn't gone to college yet... what has he done for the past 8 years? I don't think I could skip going to college for that long. What could he possibly do for a living right now?
Since I was suspicious, and a curious person, I decided to ask. "Why tak-" I started before my phone went off. I cursed in my head as I went to reach for my pocket to grab it. I flashed an apologetic smile. He put his hands up and nodded. He mouthed, "its okay."
I stood up and walked into the kitchen. Before I lifted the phone up to my ear I glanced at the caller and realized it was Lauren.
'Brilliant timing, Lauren... Twice in one day.'
"What do you want?" I asked angrily, trying to keep my voice low. Every time I actually want to hang out, she ditches me, but when I don't she is always bugging me. I guess its my luck.
"Geez... someones angry-," she started before I interrupted her.
"Lauren, I told you I was hanging out with friends. Its been like an hour since last time you called..." I trailed off, losing the anger I briefly had. I let out a sigh. There was no use in getting a hot temper over it.
There was quietness on the other line for a few seconds. "Sorry..." she muttered. I suddenly felt bad and guilty. I hate having a kind heart sometimes... "I was going going to ask if you wanted to hang out tomorrow, maybe sometime after your shift."
I bit my lip. This was when I had to decide if I actually wanted to test this. Its happened a few times when we set up everything then bam- she cancels last minute. Sometimes for no reason at all.
"I guess," I replied slowly. I wondered what she wanted to do, if she had an idea at all. Or maybe she wanted to do something so that we could spot Twenty One Pilots. Part of me really wanted to see them, but the other part didn't care too much about it.
"Okay. I don't have anything for Cosmetology School tomorrow. But I know you have work, so maybe sometime around 4?" she asked. I nodded but since we were calling, she couldn't see. I was pleased to see that she was trying to set up a time, but I would see tomorrow if she follows through with it.
"Yeah, sounds good." Was all I replied with.
"Okay.... I'll leave you to your new friends now, I guess. But your telling me about them tomorrow! I better still be your best friend, Alisha!" Lauren said. I heard her loud signature laugh go through the phone. That last part seems like something she would honestly say.
