The whole mess started when a candle blew out.
Not the good kind. When someone blows out the candles to make a wish on his or her birthday? That wasn't the kind that took place. If the two gems were doing that, they wouldn't need to close their eyes to see nothing but...
"Darkness." Amethyst breathed.
"OH MY STARS," Peridot wheezed, pressing her small hands against the walls of a pitch black cave. "Where did your mini light go?!"
Amethyst's emotionless expression stayed. "Woah."
"Amethyst!" Hissing, Peridot squeezed her eyes tight. She was uncomfortable and the darkness was driving her bonkers. "Are you listening to m-"
SPLASH
Peridot lifted her foot, slowly, from a soggy puddle. A shiver crept down her spine. The water felt cold and mucky.
"AMETHYST!!" Peridot waved her arms around, attempting to feel around for the purple gem. "SAY SOMETHING!!!"
Amethyst was too far ahead, her feel sloshing through more puddles. "This place looks even creepier in the dark."
"How are you SO FAR AHEAD?!" Her scream sent bats tumbling off the roof of the cave. The screeches sent Peridot racing forward. Puddles no longer bothered her, as long as she made it over to Amethyst.
Peridot grasped for the purple gem's hand. "There you are!"
"Yup," Amethyst chuckled. "This cave is neat, huh?"
Peridot replied with a groan, following Amethyst. The assurance of a hand clasp was keeping her from running in the other direction.
Amethyst made Peridot feel... safer.
"I don't like this, the Amethyst." Peridot's lisp stood out like a sore thumb. "I can't believe you woke me up in the middle of human recharge time, just so you could take me to this place!"
Amethyst rolled her eyes. When Peridot was panicking, she didn't add the 'the' to her name. It made her happy when Peridot didn't use that extra word. "It's just Amethyst. Besides, girl, I gotta have you come along! 'Cause with you by my side, you can figure out this awesome gem technology I found!"
Peridot's eyes widened. "Holy hockey pucks! Gem technology? Wait wait wait, the Amethyst," She began. Amethyst grumbled, pulling Peridot along. Why couldn't Peridot say her name correctly?
Before the green gem could respond, Amethyst halted her. "We're here."
"WHERE? I'm still confused!"Peridot whined. "You should explain things better, the Amethyst. It's absolutely......."
While Peridot was ranting about her feelings, Amethyst stared downwards. She was in the right place.
"Get ready to jump!" Amethyst sprinted forward, her hand locked onto Peridot's.
"WHA—"
Amethyst leapt off a cliff, Peridot bounding right after her.
