The Battle

Chapter 13

It's the same routine over and over again everyday. Korra getting nightmares, me calming her down, us barely getting any sleep, going out to get some fresh air, Naga comforting us, going to Katara's healing hut for Korra. Yes I wanted to be here and help and stay by her side but I'm getting tired of all of this. I wonder if Varrick feels the same about running the company for me but I don't think so. I wonder if he's doing okay and keeping the company from going bankrupt. I wonder how much paperwork I have to catch up on. But I need to move that aside and focus on Korra. Katara is helping out really well. She's making her get her strength back little by little. Korra on the other hand is not cooperating as much. She's still not walking yet and it's making her want to give up. But I'm not letting her do that. Katara wants us to be there tomorrow to try to get her to walk again and we're going.

We go to her healing hut and I greet her and follows her to a room where there is two bar stands on the far side of the room. I wheel Korra right in front of the bars and I go and sit down on the bench behind her. Korra is not even doing anything. She's just staring at the bars not even going to try to walk again. Katara took a sip of her tea that she made before we got here and says "Whenever your ready?" Korra sighs "What's the point? We've been at this for almost 6 months and I can barely take a couple of steps without collapsing" "I know your frustrated but..." "Of course I'm frustrated!" Korra yells out and I jump at that "A crazy man poisoned me and now I can't dress myself or cook for myself or or do anything for myself and this whole time Mako and Bolin have been off helping the world while I'm stuck with you and you can't even heal me!". I look at Katara and she is stunned by what she said. Even I'm stunned by what Korra said too. Korra looks away and places her hand on her forehead "That came out wrong" "It's alright. Let your anger and frustration flow like water" Katara says while setting her cup down and getting up to go to Korra. "I am trying to understand why this happened to me. But nothing makes any sense" Korra leans back in her wheelchair "I'm tired Katara...I'm so tired". I look down and guilt comes back to me again. I just wish I can turn back time and actually get revenge on the red lotus but I can't. What's done is done. There's no going back. Katara leans down and looks up at Korra. "Korra, I know you feel alone right now. But your not the first Avatar who's had to overcome great suffering. Can you image how much pain Aang felt when he learned that his inter culture was taken from him?" "That must have been so awful" "But he never let it destroy his spirit. He chose to find meaning in his suffering" she places her hand on Korra's "And eventually found peace" she smiles "And what am I going to find if I get through this?" "I don't know. But won't it be interesting to find out?" she smiles again. Korra breathes in and out "Okay I'm ready to try again" Katara nods and looks over to me. "Asami would you mind standing on the other side of the bars please?" "Of course" I say and walks over to the other side and faces Korra. Korra gets up using the bars and holds herself up. I see her start to shake by just focusing on her legs to make them move. "Close your eyes. Visualize yourself walking over to Asami" Katara says and Korra closes her eyes. "Do you see it?" "Yes" "Now take that first step". I watch as Korra concentrates then I smile cause she starts to walk to me. She opens her eyes to see how far she is to me and once she took another step she stumbles but gets back up and keeps walking until she is wrapped in my arms. I can't help but let tears fall down my cheeks. "You did it sweetie" I hold her tight and she does the same. Then she pulls away and grabs my cheeks to pull me in a passionate kiss and we both smile through the kiss. Katara clears her throat and we pull away and looks at her and blush. "I think we're done for today. You did an excellent job Korra. But your not done yet. I want you to walk every now and then at home okay?" "Yes Katara. Thank you so much. I never would have gotten this far if it wasn't for you" "Your welcome Korra" they both hug. Once Korra gets situated in her wheelchair we say our goodbyes and leave. "So how did it go?" Senna says. Tonraq is by her side. "I can walk again" Korra says happily and they all smile and goes to hug Korra. "That's my girl" Senna says "That's my girl too" Tonraq says and they chuckle. "Thanks mom and dad. Thanks for not giving up on me" "Your welcome sweetie" they both kiss her cheeks and I smile. I take her to her room and we lay down cuddled up with each other. "Thanks to you too Asami. If it wasn't for you coming to help me and be by my side I wouldn't have gone this far without you as well" "I'll always be by your side to help. I love you Korra" "I love you too" we kiss and then we fall asleep.
