The sun was setting as you walked the halls of the castle. The day held yet another unsuccessful search for a perfect suitor for you organized by your parents, the king and queen of the country. You let out an exasperated sigh; it was the third day, and young men travelled from across the world to come and convince you to be their wives, but you still turned them down. It didn't matter to you if those princes and nobles were who they were. It didn't even matter to you if your parents were growing impatient. You took no interest in men who thought themselves as the best thing your eyes had ever had the pleasure of landing upon. And even when they were supposed to be wooing you, you knew they really had no interest in you; you knew they only wanted to rule the renowned kingdom your father was going to hand down.
Your hand found its way to the locket that hung from your neck as you headed towards your room. With a click, it opened, and you looked down at the photo it held inside it. Inside was a photo of a small blond, emerald green-eyed boy standing close to a shorter (h/c)-haired, (e/c)-eyed girl. The girl was smiling, and the boy's face was a slight rose. You smiled at the memory of your old, childhood friend Arthur, and you wondered what he was doing right that very moment.
Your eyes still on the photo and your mind lingering on old memories and thoughts, you accidently bumped into a tall man's shoulder, which meant you'd nearly squashed your face with his shoulder. You both stopped in your tracks and looked at each other to appologize. But words did not escape your lips. You looked into pools of emerald, completely entranced by their shine.
"I am so sorry, miss." He smiled softly. Your mouth was slightly agape; you were in shock partly due to the sound of his velvet voice, but also because he had addressed you so informally! Who did he think he was to address a princess in such a way?
But as soon as you were going to berate him about manners, you took a look at him. His hair had a beautiful luster to it, making it look as soft as the best silk anyone had ever felt. He wore what looked like an outfit for royalty, with a sash over his shoulder and medals pinned onto his chest. In fact, he looked like he was a prince! Who was this man?
The man outstretched his hand for you to shake. "If I may introduce myself, I am Arthur Kirkland," he said, as if he read your mind. You were taken aback. This was the Arthur Kirkland of the kingdom of Cena, who led a large army to victory in war and won the respect of every kind in all the land?! Naturally, you had heard of him, but you never expected such a high and popular prince to be in your city! Upon hearing him claim to be Prince Arthur, your face burned a scarlet red, and you curtsied.
"It is a pleasure to meet the famous P-Prince Arthur!" You rose, feeling nervous in his presence. "My name is ( f-f/n ) ( l/n )."
He bowed. "A pleasure to meet you as well."
"O-oh! Uh, you needn't bow... I am not worthy of it," you spoke timidly.
He rose and chuckled at your modesty. "Well, if you say you are not worthy of my bow, then I am not worthy of your curtsy. I was only returning the gesture." Your face grew redder and hotter at his laugh; you felt embarrassed.
To avoid anymore conversation, you turned to face the large window behind you to check the sun. It was close to sun down and dinner. "Excuse me, Your Royal Highness. I must be going," you said, realizing you now had very little time to get ready for the dinner your father planned for you to find a suitor. You curtsied once more, turned on your heel, and walked to the direction of your quarters.
But before you disappeared, Arthur bade a goodbye, adding to his goodbye: "I will see you at the dinner!" And smiled. That sentence almost made you stop in your tracks. So the prince was only in your city and palace to attend a dinner party. Was he a suitor your father invited? No, he couldn't have been; you quickly shot down the idea. But considering your status among other princesses, you were placed quite high, so you decided that the prince only came to boost his reputation. You sighed and turned to look behind you. You saw Arthur's figure walking in the opposite direction you were and his head turned slightly as if he were looking over his shoulder. You quickly turned back around and went on your way to your room.
