Chapter One.

Cyril Donnelly sighed when he finally parked outside his office building. He's been out for some R&R for two weeks. It felt like years to him. He'd been so fond of the place that it felt more like home than where he lived. And damn if he didn't miss running around at night catching wayward supernaturals. But Angus had insisted he stay home after his last job. Although life threatening, it was the most interesting one he'd ever had.

Cyril is an orphan. Angus took him in and raised him like a son. And he saw him as his father. That's why at twenty-one he's pretty young for the job he does. But Angus never let's him forget it. It's a miracle he let's him go out at night at all, and Keith is more his babysitter than partner. But he can't work without him, so he has to accept his dad's conditions. He has to talk to Angus about that though, he's not a child.

Cyril dropped down in his seat with a sigh.

"Hey stranger," he looked up and smiled at the woman at the other side of his cubicle.

"Hey Maya," he greeted with a smile.

Maya was one of the top Agents in the underworld watch. She's a vampire. Never told him her age, apparently it's wrong to ask a woman's age. Even if she's your best friend. She's a little taller than him with short blonde hair and brown eyes. He's known her since he was a kid. It's weird but that kind of brought them closer, but some instances must never be spoken of... Like never.

"How was your vacation," she asked with a grin.

"It was awful. And boring. If dad makes me take another break ever again, I will strangle him,"

"That bad huh," she said sitting on the edge of his desk.

"You have no idea and then the cases I get. I'm no longer a kid. I'm freaking twenty-one. Why does he keep babying me?" He sighed with a pout.

"Stop whining, you're his baby, he's not going to put you in danger."

"I'm going to talk to him today. Ask him for a better job-"

"Not going to happen."

He turned at the words to watch his dad walking down the hallway to his office.

"Why the hell not," he stood up to follow.

"Language,"

Cyril groaned as he locked the office door behind them. "I have the skills. Come on dad, let me do this before I get old."

McKinley sighed. "You're not going to let this go, are you?"

"Nope. Not until I get some real jobs. Something that gives me a challenge."

His dad stared at him for a while before nodding his head. "Okay, you'll start tonight. Accompany Maya on her case."

Cyril couldn't help the grin that split on his face. "Thank you! Thank you! I promise you won't regret it."

"I hope not. Now leave I have work to do," McKinley said with a wave of his hand. Cyril pecked his cheek before skipping out of the office.

"He agreed, didn't he?" Maya asked as soon as she saw him. Cyril could only nod.

"He said I should tag along tonight for your case,"

"Okay, get your gear and let's head out. I'll fill you in on the way."

He nodded and watched her walk away.

His first real case. He couldn't wait, hope it's exciting.
