"Wake up...wake up...wake up!!!""What are you doing?"
Cyril looked up, the man was still there. Which means his mantra was totally not working.
"You were joking, right?" he asked, hoping for the best. He wished he was asleep.
"Nope, I'm the one and only," the man stated amused. He didn't get what was funny. HE'S FREAKING THE HELL OUT.
"You're not what I expected?"
"I'm HOT, aren't I?"
"Conceited? Yes. But you don't look as scary. I mean being the devil and all..." he motioned at him. He looked so...ordinary. Human.
"I can be terrifying, but I didn't think it was wise to greet you like that. I've heard birds are easily spooked. Also my son warned me," he explained walking to his desk.
"I am not a freaking bird!" he explained in exasperation.
"Yes you are." He said sitting down. "It seems my son hasn't explained everything yet."
"Explained what?"
"The truth of your existence," Lucifer motioned for him to take a seat. He sat across from him on the other side of the desk.
"Okay, lay it on me."
"I have two sons. Kriel, the oldest and Avis the youngest. They've never really gotten along. While Kriel was comfortable with the demons Avis wasn't. He wanted to create something unique. Something different.
One day he went to the human world and came back a few months later. Locked himself in his room and didn't come out for weeks. We all wondered what was going on. But no matter what we did he wouldn't let anyone go in.
Of course he came out in the end, but he always kept his room locked. After a few years he walked into my office and asked me to escort him to his room. And that's when he presented it to us. A new creature. A creature none of us have ever seen before. It had wings of fire and could create fire at will. And not just on the hands...but his whole body."
"That's impossible, I've never heard of such a creature. And what does it have to do with me anyway?"
"Shut up boy! I don't like being interrupted," Lucifer reprimanded him causing him to pout. How mean.
"But Kriel was jealous and saw this as his brother's act of challenge, so he killed the creature and hid his soul. Locked it somewhere, not in hell since I know every crevice in my kingdom, I would have found it.
Twenty one years ago the soul was set free. But none of us knew where it was. No one but Avis. The rest of us could only sense its magic, but Avis must have found a way to mask it. He also made a few improvements, since you're here."
"You don't mean...?"
"Yes boy, you're the bird... Actually, the Firebird."
Oh man. This is just too much, he only wanted things to stop being so boring, but this...he doesn't want. Cyril wished it was all a dream and would wake up tomorrow morning with his dad refusing to give him any interesting cases. Maybe he should stop asking for that.
He wasn't even fucking born but created. He felt like Frankenstein all of a sudden.
Why can't life just be simple.
