I'll just dive in I guess.Clark's P.O.V.
I woke first the next day. I could see Dean and Kate curled around each other on the pull-out and laughed at their former denial. The sound woke Cas, who blinked at me sleepily, before looking to see the cause of my laughter. He grinned too, tousling his messy hair.
"Now who are they calling lovebirds?"
I giggled as I thought of Dean's comment last night.
"Glad to see you're feeling better. Shall we celebrate by waking them up?"
I shrugged. "Sure." He looked dismayed at my lack of enthusiasm, but sat up anyway, propping himself on his elbows. I began to get up too, but did a double take when I realised he was shirtless. I blushed, but shook it off by standing up quickly. Too quickly it seemed, as I stumbled. I could feel his smirk behind my back and tried but utterly failed to ignore it.
"Do you mind telling me what is so amusing?"
"Nothing. Just you."
I rolled my eyes, motioning him to be quiet.
Silently we snuck up to the pull-out where the blissfully unaware pair were entwined.
On the count of four, simply because we felt like it,we jumped on the end of the mattress. Kate and Dean ricocheted apart, startled, and Dean fell, landing in an undignified heap on the floor.
There was a pause, before a short "oww" could be heard and we all doubled over with laughter.
For a moment, all our worries melted away, and we were normal teenagers laughing at the results of a weak prank.
Through the merriment, a low groan emerged from the other bed. We all rushed over, feeling guilty for forgetting about the injured Gabe.
Cas and Kate immediately began checking him over, while Dean and I bombarded him with questions.
"What happened? Did you see who it was? Do you remember anything?"
"Stop." That was Cas, constantly looking out for others before himself.
Gabe looked relieved, but slightly dazed. "Where's Carson?"
We shared a glance. "He's...gone." I said.
"Gone where?"
"He's dead Gabe." Kate. Always to the point.
-----------------------------------------
I dreamed that night.
For as long as I could remember I had been able to see into others dreams, thoughts, hopes, fears. My father had hated it, forbidding me from using this power, but I couldn't control it. Whatever 'it' was.
Tonight, I saw the library.
At first, I thought it was a memory of one of our many detentions, but the English teacher's eyes were black. I knew this wasn't my memory. This was Caorthannach. I was proved correct a minute later when Cas and Kate arrived. The dream was of the time when Dean confessed about being a hunter to me.
They converse with the demon, bargaining for Gabe and Carson, who are slumped in the corner.
"What do you want?" Kate asked.
"That would be telling."
"Is there anything I can do to get back my br- the captives?"
"Excellent question. I suppose you can give me something," the demon gestures towards Cas.
"What is it?"
"Oh, nothing much, just some blood."
"You can take some of mine," Kate replied, stepping forward bravely, pushing Cas behind her.
"It has to be him."
"Why?"
"He's different. Special."
Kate opened her mouth to argue, but Cas spoke before her. "Okay. Take it, but you have to promise not to harm either of them further."
"I'll think about it."
"You can't go back on our deal now. You will not hurt them."
"I won't promise you anything.'
"If you don't guarantee their safety, I'm not giving you anything."
"You're not in a position to bargain, kid." The demon tilted Gabe's head up by pulling up a finger under his chin, and Kate started forward again.
"This one, eh?"
"Both or nothing," Kate stated.
The demon whipped out a blade, held it against Gabe's exposed throat.
"Give it to me now, or there'll be no one to bargain for."
"He's bluffing," Kate said, turning to Cas.
"Do you want to take that risk?" the demon taunted.
Cas stepped forward, his forearm held out. "Take it."
The demon grinned, and I watched him move towards Cas, as the image disintegrated before me, like sand running through my fingers.
