"Well it's not you fault, you were just trying to protect yourself. I mean, sure, you've confirmed the death of our two favorite people ever, but still."
"Wow, I feel so loved," I say sarcastically, rolling my eyes at my friend Mackenzie who was "trying" to cheer me up after the incident with Professor Ozpin. But all it did was make me feel worse.
She sighed, "Look, I'm sorry, but what's done is done. There's no way out of it now."
"Don't remind me," I say bitterly, my hands in my face.
We were hanging out with Cocoa and Velvet. It was the end of their first year of Beacon, and they had become our best friends.
"Mackenzie's right, it's not your fault," Velvet said thoughtfully, "and you aren't a coward for refusing something that would lead to your death."
Velvet and Cocoa both knew about our world, and had excepted it with no problem when we told them. In fact, it excited them that we could see the future (kind of.)
"Kid just stop blaming yourself," Cocoa added in, "we already knew it was going to happen, and it would hurt us worse if it were you that was dying."
"Thanks," I say, but I still didn't feel better. I felt like a coward, just confirming Pyrrah's death like that.
"Hmmm, I know what you need," Mackenzie smiled, pulling out her phone and starting to play mixes of Melanie Martinez, Panic! At The Disco, and Fall Out Boy. I laugh a little and close my eyes, listening as Sippy Cup and I Write Sins Not Tragedies and Uma Thurman play.
Cocoa laughs at the expression on my face, and Velvet giggles a bit as I open my eyes. I stick my tongue out at them, and Cocoa laughs even harder. "Sorry kid, but your response... I just... I can't," she chuckled, falling to the floor.
I laughed, "Maybe sometimes I should show you my horrible dancing."
"YAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Velvet giggled, "Now that would be quite the show," she added, covering her mouth with her hand.
"Alright then," I said, "just play the next song."
An hour later, we were all dancing around like idiots, Mackenzie doing crazy kicks, Cocoa totally rocking out, Velvet actually being graceful, and I just being a complete and total idiot.
As the last song ended, we all fell to the floor, gasping in vain for a chance to catch our breath. Letting out a loud sigh, I stood up, brushing the dust off my skirt. "Hey, thanks guys, but I better be getting to my dorm," I said, "it's getting late, and you know how strict Ozpin is over the curfew."
Cocoa nodded, "You go ahead, Kennith. And you too, Mackenzie. You'll need all the energy for you can get for the beginning of the year ceremony on Tuesday."
Smiling a thanks, I left the room with Mackenzie, who immediately squealed out loud with happiness.
"OH! MY! GOD! Kennith, we are going to start school at beacon on TUESDAY!!! And we'll meet Ruby Rose, and Yang, and Blake, and Wisse. And oh... I think I might hyperventilate."
I gave a small laugh, "Well as long as they don't find out about the secret."
"Well obviously we won't tell them all of the stuff about us knowing and-"
"No," I cut her off, "the.... the other thing."
She sighed, "It's not that big of a deal, Kennith. I'm sure they wouldn't judge you for it. I mean, what does it have to do with anything, right?"
I shrugged, "I just don't want them to know, okay? And yes, I'm sure that you would never tell them without my consent, but... I don't know."
She gave me a sad smile, "Hey, I won't tell them about it, and I'll kill the others if they do. Now, come on, we better get to our dorm. Race you!"
She took off, with me right behind her. "CHEAT!!!" I yelled as the halls caught fire, which was her semblance. "YOU BETTER FIX THIS UP!!!" I heard laughter ahead of me as the flames vanquished, leaving the hall just as it was.
She turned at one of the corners, and I slowed, thinking of the one thing I hated most.
I had no semblance.
