Mason's P.O.V
She drove so fast everything around us was a blur. She sped into a CVS parking lot and parked in the very back.
"I'll be right back." She huffed as she closed the door and ran into the store. I sat in the car just waiting, the radio was low but just enough for me to hear what was playing. I turned around in the seat and stared at her bag, the bag I had grabbed for her. For some reason this made me smile, which made my face hurt. I turned back around to face her. She had a huge bag in her hand and she threw it back as she got in the car. She looked at me, her eyes so crazy and scared, and she restarted the car and sped off back to my house.
When we finally reached my house, she sped into the driveway and turned the car off. She reached into the back of the car and grabbed the CVS bag.
"Let's go." She said. I hopped out of the car and opened the door. She walked in front of me and I followed her up to my room. She opened the doors and closed them behind me as I walked in. As she closed the door I could hear her letting out a huge breath of air. She walked towards me and emptied the bag out onto my bed. She looked at me and grabbed my hand. She walked me to my bed and we both sat down. She grabbed a tube of Neosporin and some alcohol sponges and grabbed my hand.
"This might sting a little." She frowned as she said this. I looked down and realized my hand was covered in scrapes, dripping blood. She pressed the alcohol sponge to my hand and I winced at it. I could tell she was going as quickly as she possibly could. When she was done she wrapped my hand up in bandages and swiftly removed her hand from mine.
"I can help you change it at night. Your gonna have to wear it for a week though." She whispered. She looked down the whole time she spoke. I slowly grabbed her hand and held it in mine. She snapped her head up at me and I could finally see her face, truly see it. I saw her inner pain cut and bruised across her face. Her lip was cut, she had purple and brown bruises across her face, and her lower left eyelid was a little swollen. Her face was completely shattered, and yet, somehow she still looked good. She locked eye with me, but only for a moment. Then she tilted her head back down and looked at the ground.
"It's gonna be okay, it's just a couple of cuts and bruises." I said. She didn't even look at me as I spoke. I grabbed her hand with my bandaged one and held it. She started to move around uncomfortably, so I gently set her hand down on the bed. After that it was completely silent, it was so quiet you probably could literally hear a pin drop. We sat next to each other for, what felt like forever, and then she finally stood up.
"Is there maybe another room I could sleep in?" she talked low as she said this, still looking down at the ground.
"Yeah." I mumbled back. I cleared my throat as I stood up and led her down the hall. I took her to the biggest guest room we had, exactly 2 doors down from my room. I opened the door and led her in. I pointed to a door inside the room.
"That's the bathroom right there. It's the same size as mine so, you should be fine." I said. She walked over to the bed and sat down.
"Thank you. Seriously...thanks." She gave me the smallest smile possible as she said this. I smiled back as I started to walk back to my room. Once I had finally shut my door and sat down, my phone buzzed underneath me. As I unlocked my screen I noticed all the missed calls and text messages I had from a bunch of people.
Ryan: "Dude, where you at man!?"
"I hope your okay man, cause Natalie's gonna kill you when she finds you."
Natalie: "I'm here, where are you?"
"Still don't see you??" "Are you seriously not coming!??" "Wow."
I kept scrolling through my phone and I finally saw the text I knew I couldn't avoid.
Mother: "What happened with Natalie!!?" "I'll be back on Wednesday. Expect a conversation."
I shut my phone off and leaned back against my bed. I knew exactly what she meant when she said "conversation". I pulled off my shirt and started to slip off my jeans. As I slipped them off I felt the ripped flag in my pocket, and slowly pulled it out. I stared at it for a moment and then I slowly walked over to my desk and grabbed my stapler. I remembered her bag that I had grabbed and ran outside as quietly as I could to get it. Once I was back inside I dropped the bag at the front of her door and gently set, the now stapled together, flag on top of it. I walked back into my room and turned out my light as I crawled into bed.
Kat's P.O.V
It was around 3 am. I couldn't sleep at all. It was so bad that I actually fell out of the bed trying to rock myself to sleep. I remembered using some milk that morning, and slowly got up to head to the kitchen. I slowly walked to the door and opened it. I nearly tripped and fell over something in front me. I looked down and saw my big duffle bag with my clothes in it. But the thing that laid on top of the bag made my heart skip a beat. I bent down and slowly picked it up. My Berkeley flag had 3 small staples in it. A light smile had spread across my face. I dragged the bag into the room and walked slowly to his room, still holding the flag. I softly knocked 3 times and waited for him to open the door. It took a moment, but he finally opened it. At first he didn't recognize me, but as he did his eyes got wider. He had a puzzled look on his face, but I could tell he hadn't been sleeping. I held up the flag in my hand and allowed a small smirk to appear on my face. He looked at the flag and then back at me. Then he inched closer to me and his lips crashed into mine. It felt weird at first, but then it felt nice, I wrapped my arms around his neck. He pulled away and stared into my eyes. Then he grabbed my hand and slowly pulled me into his room. And I locked the door behind me.
