Kat's P.O.V
He had dropped me off at the store hours ago. I caught the bus after and was finally walking up the sidewalk towards my door. I fumbled with my keys in my hand, boy oh boy I cannot wait to see what awaits me today. I walked inside to find my mother sitting at the kitchen table smoking a cigarette. "Where the fuck have you been!?" She growls as she blows smoke into the air. "I was out working. Didn't you notice the electricity." I slammed the door shut and made my way for my room, barely acknowledging her. "Hey! Come back here you little bitch!" She yells. I continue going down the hall. "I'm talking to you!" She continues, getting up from her seat and trudging towards me. This happens every time, she yells and waits for me to get mad, and say something she can use against me later. This is the part where I get mad. "Shut up! I was out paying your goddamn bills because your too much of a drunk and a pothead to do it yourself, so SHUT UP!" I screamed. She backs up and connects the cigarette in her hand to her lips. She walks towards me and blows the smoke directly in my face. "I go out every goddamn night and I do what I have to do to make sure you have a roof over your head. I've done EVERYTHING for you! So don't you ever pretend like your better than me you little whore. Your just as disgusting as your sorry ass father was, that's probably why he didn't want you anyway. I should've gotten that goddamn abortion when I had the chance. Your nothing but scum stuck on the bottom of my shoe, just like your daddy." She spit. Our fights had started reaching this big of a low when I was around 9 years old. That was the first time she ever called me a piece of shit. "FUCK YOU, YOU TRAILER TRASH WHORE!" I screamed. I pushed her out of my way as I walked down the hallway. This is when the fighting starts. She grabbed me by my hair and pulled me down to the ground. I tried to wrestler her off but she sat on top of me, pinning me to the floor. She took the cigarette resting between his lips and connected it's tip to the skin on the side of my neck. I screamed in agony.

I was cleaning up all the crumbled up paper and supplies off of my bedroom floor. I had actually had a lot of fun with Kat, she seems pretty cool. There's something about though that just seen a little off. I was dumping stuff into my trash can when my mom walked in. "Mason honey, why did I just get off the phone with Mrs. Hilton explaining to her that there's no possible way you could've turned down an invite to a party from Natalie?" She said. I can't believe Natalie snitched on me to her mom. She knows our parents are strictly business women first, mothers 2nd. You would think that would keep her from opening her mouth all the time. "Thanks mom, my day was great. As for the party I can't go because I have an assignment to work on." I replied. She swept of a section of my bedspread and sat down. "Mason do not take that tone with me. I understand you have homework, but you can take off this one evening." She crossed her legs and folded her hands together as she said this. I glared at her. "No, I can't. Natalie will survive one night without me. My priority is my assignment first, and your business second." I replied. She stood up then, arms hanging by her sides. "You will not take that tone with, you will go to that party and you will make sure that Natalie enjoys herself. I don't care if you have to pin her against a wall and pleasure her! I want her picking out your wedding flowers by the time she gets home." She huffed, before storming out of my room and down the hall. If she thinks I'm going to flirt with Natalie for her benefit, she's got another thing coming. And I know she won't like it.

I walked into the school building as fast as I could. I had left the house 30 minutes early, before she woke up. I kept pulling up the turtleneck I was wearing, trying to hide my circular burn mark. I walked as fast as I could to my locker without bumping into anyone. I was trying extra hard not to draw attention to myself today. I grabbed my books and headed off to my 1st block. I had a test I had to make up from my "doctor appointment" the other day.

I pulled into my parking space and put the car in park. I saw Natalie on the other side of the parking lot talking to Ryan Matthews. Why couldn't she go to the party with him, he's the one hosting the damn thing. I walked into my 2nd period and sat in my seat. She hadn't shown up yet, but I knew she wouldn't be late. Ryan walked up and sat in the seat in front of me. He turned to face me "Yo man, what happened to you last night? We all went to the big rock and you missed it, we jumped off!" The big rock is this big cliff over by the local water hole. Only crazy people jump off. "Wow! I can't believe you jumped off, a year ago you would've cried going even near the edge." I laughed. He laughed back even harder. "Yeah well, you should've been there. Where were you anyway?" I hesitated answering. Not that I have anything to hide, I just don't need everyone at school knowing my business. "I uh.. I had some stuff I do for my mom. You know her, always business first before jumping off cliffs." We both started laughing. The bell rang and Kat hurried in and basically ran to her seat. I tried to say hi but she moved so fast I could barely see her. Before I could even turn around to see if she acknowledged by presence, Mr. Reynolds walked in.

"Alright everybody! Since I've giving you your assignment and partners spend the class period discussing your assignment. Begin!" Mr. Reynolds said as he sat down behind his desk. I was staring down at the floor, but I could see him approaching me out of the corner of my eye. "Hey, what's up?" He said sitting down. "Hey." I whispered back. "So, I was thinking we could spend this afternoon trailing each other. Like seeing what we do on a daily basis. I cocked my head up all too quickly. I can not take him to my side of town, he wouldn't survive. "Uh, maybe we should just focus on the questions for now." I said, taking out my notebook. He gave me a weird look and took out his. "Yeah, sure." He mumbled. We took out some pencils and started answering questions.
