You walked down the stairs nervously, not sliding like usual because you had company. You really felt awkward and put on the spot. You absolutely hated being the center of attention, so of course you were always in the spotlight.
You felt all eyes on you, and the room fell silent, but you didn't really know why. You were wearing regular clothes. You felt relieved you didn't dress up and you were only wearing jeans, albeit ice blue skinny jeans so ripped they were practically nonexistent below the knee, allowing your legs to feel the cold air, and you had a white boxy tee with a royal blue Peter Pan collar and lace detailing on the back. The now-familiar cold hovered right next to you, raising goosebumps on your arm, but you felt more confident. Confident enough to slide down the banister the rest of the way, laughing with everyone else. Your hair was simply down, straight and floaty, and it looked okay, in your opinion. You hopped off, your fuzzy royal blue socks allowing you to glide across the wooden floor, skidding to a sudden stop like an ice skater, which you were. You imagined snow and ice scrapings flying up from your feet as you waltzed into the kitchen, grabbing a sugar cookie quickly. You hopped up into the table, swinging your legs. "Hey Mom. Hey Aunt Gracie. Hey Aunt Izzy." Izzy wasn't really your aunt, she was actually your mom's friend, but you were really close.
"Hello, [Y/N], here to help out?" your mom greeted distractedly.
You laughed loudly, imitating an Australian accent and doing a decent job of it too, "Me? Not on your nelly."
You skated back into the living room where people were mingling and snacking, chatting politely. You looked around for Becky and slammed into someone, them just catching you before you fell. "Thanks," you muttered, brushing yourself off and straightening your shirt before looking at them. Your heart sank slightly. It was Andrew. Yes, he was your best friend, but he had been acting strangely around you lately, and it was making you uncomfortable. He kept bursting your personal bubble, coming about a step closer to you than you'd prefer, and you always backed away cautiously. "Hey Andrew," you said, not looking in his eyes, stepping back a few steps.
His green eyes glinted brightly, almost eagerly. "Hey [Y/N]. Happy birthday." He smiled, practically blinding you. He was very good looking, and it annoyed you, since girls only tried to be friends with you to get close to him.
"Thanks, Andrew. I'm glad you could come." You smiled back.
"[Y/N], [Y/N]! Come play with us!" Your little cousins and Sophie ran over, Jamie running along behind them.
You laughed. "Okay, okay, stop pulling me! You'll knock me over!" you said as they tugged at your legs and your clothes, trying to pull you away from Andrew. "I'll talk to you in a bit!" you called as you were dragged away by tiny little hands and one very confused mouth.
"May, don't bite," you chided softly, sitting in the playroom with your cousins and the younger siblings of your friends. You didn't really care that you were sitting on an old couch with about ten elementary and preschoolers debating on which children's movie to watch while your friends and family were in the main rooms chatting. You preferred being around little kids, and you babysat for the whole neighborhood at the same time once a week when all the parents on the block went out to dinner together. It was fun, and you had a large array of children's movies.
A loud argument broke out, attracting your attention away from the friendly cold spot that was next to you, stretching the length of your body as if they were in the same position as you, feet up on the ottoman too. "Guys, what's the problem?" You raised your voice slightly to be heard above them. The argument continued. "Guys!" You yelled, immediately catching their attention. You never yelled at them, and when you did, it meant you were very mad. The room was silent. "What were you arguing about?" You said in a soft voice.
"We couldn't decide what movie to watch," Jamie said, fidgeting. You patted the couch beside you, on the other side of the cold bit, and Jamie sat, glancing over at the cold spot. All the kids kept looking at it and giggling, which you didn't understand.
"Well, what couldn't you decide between?" You tried to reason with them.
"Everyone wanted something different." Jamie looked sheepish, and if the cold spot was in the shape of a body, the way you figured it was by now, it reached it's arm over your shoulders and Jamie's hair was ruffled by a cold wind that made everyone but you shiver.
"Okay then, lets lay out the choices." You put your feet down and crouched on the floor, resting your elbows on your knees and laying the movies out in a row.
Three Barbie movies, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Tangled, How to Train Your Dragon, Mulan, The Lion King 1 1/2, The Hunger Games, which you immediately put back, and one movie you had never seen before.
"Hey Jamie, who picked this one out?" You questioned, holding up the DVD case.
The cold thing, invisible person, whatever, moved closer to you in anticipation.
Jamie shoved his hands in his pockets. "I did. I'm even in it!"
"Really? Then we have to watch it!" You popped the DVD in the player and dimmed the lights, curling up under a blanket as the beginning scene started to play. You pressed PLAY, letting the little clip in the beginning go through once, and you felt something deep in your gut stir at the mention of these things. It made you nauseous, and you scooted closer to the cold spot, laying your hand down on the couch between the two of you. The younger kids all piled onto the couch under a few blankets, Sophie sitting in your lap, and your hand went numb. The cold thing- no, person- had put an invisible yet freezing hand over yours, chilling it to the bone but reassuring you as the movie started.
You glanced at the cover one more time before it started. Interesting name for a movie, you thought.
Rise of the Guardians. What kind of a title was that?
Well, you were about to find out.

So yes, I have you watch RotG. How could I not? And since in the movie Jamie's dad wasn't present, I said he just was on a business trip and you went on some trip too or whatever.

I'm horrible person! I said I would update yesterday, but my parents took my phone and I'm hiding right now so I can't update technically for about two and a half months, but I'm sneaking it. I'm so sorry! And I just got really into fanfiction.net so I've been spending all my free time reading that instead of writing this for you. I can only write in the morning on the school bus, I'm so sorry, my parents take it when I get home and I can't get it until the morning.
Toodles! Again, so sorry!
