Hi, I'm Melanie. I was just a normal girl with a normal
life - until one day when everything changed.________________________
I grew up in a tiny seaside village. In Northern Ireland. Just about the smallest place on the map. Where it always rains. I could go on,but I won't, because I loved my childhood. Especially in the summer, when the caravan park's buzzing with activity and it's sometimes warm, so you can jump off the pier or a huge rock into the sea. I love the sea, the salty waves lapping around your feet while you stand on the the golden sandy beach. I love the sound of the sea, the smell of freshly-cooked fish and chips, the taste of salt water. Wait, no! That's one bit I don't like. Salt water in your mouth when your swimming in the sea. Yuck!
Anyway, that was my wonderful storybook childhood. Now for reality. We moved. When I was ten, so that I could go to a grammar school. I only decided a couple of weeks before the tests that I wanted to go there, so it's kind of a miracle I got in in the first place. I passed the test. My big brother Scott always tells me I'm really lucky and my mum always calls me little miss lucky. I suppose I am quite fortunate sometimes, but I don't believe in luck. I think everything happens for a reason. I could be wrong, of course. I agree with my brother that nothing ever seems to go too badly for me, for some reason. For instance, I've never broken a bone or even sprained anything! Which is weird, because I never stopped climbing trees and jumping off stuff when I was a child. And I mean, I used to do karate and I never got hurt then either. Anyway, despite all these "lucky" things that happen to me, the luckiest thing is that I have my whole life planned out. Grow up, go to university, buy a little house and marry Charlie.

Oh yeah! Another lucky thing, I've got a boyfriend! When I transferred to the grammar school, I made friends with Taylor and Natalie, but my best friend was always going to be Megan. She's like a sister to me - we love all the same stuff, we're both musical and we've never fought. We made friends in year 8, but now we're almost 14 we're even closer! And as for Charlie and I, we've been going out for nearly 2 years.
We have this dream that we'll be together for the rest of school and then we'll get married. Everyone thinks we're crazy - even me, if I'm honest, but Megan said she thought it was dead romantic and that she wished Jason would do that too.
Jason is Megan's boyfriend, so it's kind of a pity I can't stick him. But honestly, I don't know what she sees in him.Today was the best day ever! Me and Megan and my cousin Jasmine went to the shop when we got off the bus, as
usual. Me and my cousin are really close. Literally. Like, we're next door neighbours. But we do loads of fun stuff together and even though she's a year older than me, we hang out a lot. Anyway, we bought milk chocolate (my cousin has a policy that dark chocolate is for winter, milk chocolate for spring and white chocolate is for all the time! She says chocolate warms you up, so we get sweets in the summer instead.Which is very true, I always crave chocolate on a warm day)
We were sitting on the wall at the bus stop eating our chocolate when Charlie walked up and sat down beside me. "Hi," he said quietly. "Hi, Charlie," I replied. I couldn't even see anything else anymore, just his killer blue eyes looking straight into mine. Charlie sat beside me on our bus home that afternoon, and when we got off he hugged me saying goodbye, in front of everyone! I walked home from the bus stop with Jasmine. When I got through the door, Scott pounced immediately. "How's the boyfriend then, Mel?" I sighed and rolled my eyes. When would he shut up about Charlie? "Perfect thank you. How's your girlfriend?" He laughed. "I don't have one" I smiled at him. "Of course you don't!" I yelled, and I raced up the stairs to my room. We live in a little two-storey house in the countryside now. My room is upstairs and I love it. I have a sofa bed against one wall and a desk in the corner. I also have everything I need for my hobbies - a sewing machine, a keyboard, a music stand, a violin and a flute. I also play the accordion and the guitar but I keep them downstairs and my mum tells me to keep my bow and arrows outside - yes, I have a few weird and wonderful hobbies! My favourite part of my room is the wardrobe that stretches right along one wall. I keep all my clothes and shoes in one side but on the other side I keep all my art things. I sit in my wardrobe and sketch and paint and make collages every day that I have free time. And I also post my YouTube channel from my room - I have a music channel where I post all the new songs I write. Oh yeah, that's the other thing. I write songs. But
I'm not here to tell you about my perfectly normal life where everything goes to plan. I'm going to tell you about the day everything changed.
The day we got lucky.___________________________
