A/N: This is a one shot based on my story called Little Tommy Becket. If you haven't read the story yet then go take a look.
********************I exhaled loudly in the hopes that my racing heart and rising temper would fade. One deep breath in and I could feel the frustration that had previously been pulling under the surface, fade. I looked down and stared at the wide-eyed toddler on the floor; a chubby thumb in her mouth and the look of innocence sparkling in her eyes.
I tried to fight it but, a smile inevitably broke through my facade of anger. Shaking my head, I crouched down and gathered the gurgling baby in my arms. I kissed her head and then turned on my feet to walk down the small hallway in search of Kevin.
I could hear voices drifting through the small open plan design of the house and I smiled. When Kevin and I had made the decision to upgrade from our apartment to a home with a backyard, I had specifically requested an open plan home. I wanted to always hear their voices.
I turned the last corner necessary and spotted Kevin behind the stove stirring dinner. Tommy sat in a chair quietly doing his homework at the dinner table. Upon hearing my footsteps, Kevin turned around and smiled at me. "There she is. Where did you find her?" He asked, nodding his head towards the happy baby in my arms.
I placed her in her high chair next to Tommy before looking back at my husband. "The same place she always seems to disappear to."
He laughed, "So our bedroom then?" I nodded and then turned to look back at the table just in time to see Tommy give his little sister a quick kiss on her cheek. My chest ached from the action. I was so lucky to have Tommy.
Two arms wound around my waist and I leaned back into Kevin's chest. He placed a light kiss on my head before whispering in my ear, "He's so great with her."
I nodded, "We're really lucky aren't we?" He hummed in agreement and we stood there quietly watching our children. After some time had passed, Kevin unwound his arms from me and returned to the kitchen to finish dinner. I left him to finish and instead went to join Tommy at the table.
I peered over his shoulder to see him busy with his maths homework. "Need help, sweetie?"
He shook his head, "I want to do it on my own."
"Well if you need help, you know you just have to ask me."
I watched as Tommy turned his attention away from his work long enough to give me a toothy smile. At only ten years old I could see that he would be a heartbreaker. He had the same classic charm that his mother possessed as well as her good heart. The girls wouldn't stand a chance.
"Thanks mom. I might need you and dad to help me with my science though." I nodded to let him know that we would before I excused myself from the table. I could see Kevin glance my way and one nod from him let me know that he understood. I had kept it together long enough to be out of eyesight from Tommy but, upon hearing him speak, the dam inside of me broke. "Is mommy going to go cry again?"
