Matty was already sitting at the table, waiting when Olivia walked in two minutes early. 2:58pm.
"Hi! Here, what do you want to drink?" He jumped up, pulling out a chair for her.
"Coffee? Latte? Americana? Flat white?" Olivia had barely sat down and Matty was already jumping around her, offering her this and that.
"Uhm, just a black coffee?" She laughed, slightly nervously.
"Right, perfect, me too, be right back" he stumbled over his chair before grinning sheepishly and darting off.
"What the fuck" Olivia mumbled under her breath and glanced around, her cheeks darkening under people's confused stares.
"Back" Matty wobbled back to the table, splashing coffee all over himself as he set down the cups "anyway, hi!"
"Matty, stop." Olivia chuckled as Matty cocked his head to the side and his eyes widened, much like a puppy. "What's wrong? Where's the Matty that I met - chill and sarcastic! Not hyper and crazy..." Olivia finished, and Matty looked like a child who had been caught stealing cookies from the cookie jar.
"Nothing's wrong... Everything's perfect, I'm loving life right now" Matty winked at Olivia, sending shivers down her spine.
Olivia only now had a chance to really take in his appearance, but he was shaking slightly and his nose was running, although he didn't seem to notice or care. Things started to click in Olivia's brain when she noticed that Matty's pupils were dilated. She gasped slightly, before grabbing Matty by the arm and dragging him out of his seat.
"Hey, what're you doing? Where are we going?" He wriggled slightly, before he stopped.
"We're going back to my place" Olivia smiled, leading Matty towards the door. Matty wriggled his eyebrows and winked at her "your place, yeah?" Olivia just cursed at him and kept walking.
-
When they got back to Olivia's house, Matty had completely crashed, and kept grumbling at Olivia whenever she dragged him slightly to get him to go in the right direction, and kept complaining that he was tired, and everything was annoying him, he just seemed in a generally low mood.
"Matty, are you okay?" Olivia sat him down on the sofa, and sat down awkwardly next to him, not entirely sure how close to sit or what to do with her hands.
"I'm fine? What're you on about?" He muttered quickly and irritably.
"Matty, I know you're not fine. I'm not stupid, I know what's going on" Olivia explained as gently as she could as she was slightly frightened of how he would react. Immediately, his eyes shot up and he started mumbling, more to himself than to Olivia.
"What do you mean?!" Matty seemed suddenly on edge, and uncomfortable and Olivia didn't know what to do or say to him.
"You took cocaine today, didn't you Matty?" The awkwardness in the air thickened as Matty tensed, facing away from Olivia for a second before standing up.
"Yes, I did. I'll just go, save you the hassle"
"Wait Matty! What do you mean, go? I want you to stay, why would you leave?" Olivia darted up after Matty, and instinctively grabbed his hand, but let go when he glanced down quizzically.
"You sure you don't hate me?" His voice cracked, and Olivia felt so much more sorry for him.
"Of course I don't! You're a great guy Matty and we can get you help, or if you don't want to do that, I can try and help you? And surely you have other friends who can help you too?" Olivia smiled as Matty sat down again, burying his face in his hands, and it only took Olivia a couple of seconds to realise that Matty was crying, and soon enough he began sobbing, and he found himself leaning against Olivia as she cradled him in her arms as a comfort. They sat like that for at least an hour, Matty crying quietly to himself whilst Olivia rubbed his back and held him comfortingly.
Eventually, Matty sat up, sniffling and answered Olivia's offer. "I think I'd like that a lot, thank you Olivia, it really means a lot." He smiled, a genuine smile, and leaned across to wrap Olivia in a hug, clinging on to her as though his life depended on it.
"That's okay, Matty. I care about you, and I don't want to see the people I care about getting hurt" she stopped to smile at him, and they sat, grinning at each other, not speaking for a few moments. "Now, coffee?" Olivia laughed, and Matty nodded in agreement, and eagerness for coffee.
"Sure, but not back at that place okay?" He grinned sheepishly, and Olivia laughed along with him.
"I'll make coffee, don't worry. You can sit down and pick out a film to watch if you like?"
They seemed a lot closer after that, and they both sat in silent content as they watched the film and drank their coffee until Matty fell asleep, his head drooped onto Olivia's shoulder, and his mouth hung slightly open; Olivia found it adorable, and couldn't help but smile a little, before yawning tiredly and allowing herself to drift off to sleep, cuddled with the boy she met just yesterday, on her sofa whilst the credits of the movie rolled, playing loud music which her tired state allowed her to ignore.
