Cytra watched as Raiden left the building. She wanted to reveal herself, but she enjoyed watching him attempt to give her a message. She thought is was kind of cute.
But that wasn't the true reason she hadn't appeared.
Moldark was standing right next to her, watching the whole scenario play out.
When Raiden was gone, Moldark turned to Cytra.
"You let him live?" he asked calmly. "You had him right under your thumb, but you backed out. Cytra, that's not how an assassin would have dealt with the situation."
Cytra stood stone still. Her face was expressionless. She couldn't explain it, but Raiden did something to her. Something inside her changed when she was with him. Even though their moment was brief. He somehow made her feel complete.
"For your failure, I have to ask you to return the blade," Moldark continued. "I can't have my blade in the hands of someone who is not going to get the job done."
"Moldark," Cytra spoke up. "Just imagine it, Raiden Solace can get me close to the king. The mission wasn't a complete loss. I have a potential ally. I can manipulate him into getting me close to the target. It's perfect."
Moldark thought about Cytra's proposal for a moment. It always surprised Cytra to see that Moldark's yellow eyes had the capability to show emotion. It seemed unnatural for him. Those demonic eyes radiated evil, but in that moment, there was a hint of curiosity. It was a strange thing, but Cytra forgot that Moldark was only a man. He wasn't an evil force, or some demon from the Dark Depths. He was just a man. Now, whether or not he has gotten mixed up with evil forces from the Dark Depths is a totally different story.
Cytra didn't know much about the man she worked for. At times, she didn't want to know who she was dealing with. It terrified her to think that someone could be so... dark? Evil? She had never seen anyone like Moldark. She, herself, was a very dark person, but she didn't even come close to how evil Moldark was.
But sometimes she wished she knew more about him. Sometimes knowing these things was better than being left in the dark.
"The soldier seems to see something in you," he said thoughtfully. "He seemed to take a personal interest in you. It's strange, but it's true."
Cytra nodded. She liked where he was going with this.
"Pursue this new mission," Moldark commanded. "Get close to Captain Raiden Solace, and as you suggest him, we will use him to get us close to the king."
"It will be done, my Lord," Cytra said, remembering to add that last part.
Cytra was about to leave when Moldark grabbed her shoulder.
"There's one more thing I want you to do," he said softly. "The closer you get with him, the harder it will be to tear him down later."
"I am aware, my Lord," she replied, anxious to move forward.
He kept her still. His demonic eyes had a sever seriousness to them. Cytra shivered.
"You must know that Raiden has to die eventually," he said. "With him in play, he has the power to stop us both. Get close to him, get close to the king, then finish him off."
Cytra didn't respond. She just stared into Moldark's intimidating eyes.
"Do you understand?" he asked.
Cytra knew what had to be done, but could she do it? Was her life at stake if she didn't obey Moldark's direct order? Was she willing to manipulate, betray, and murder such an innocent man?
"Like I said, it will be done."
