Hi the names Emma Smith and this is my life story. I've had a pretty tough life compared to others. I have an alcoholic father that I gave up on so long ago. My whole life I've had to take care of myself since my mom died when I was 5, even when she was around I had to take care of myself. I've always seen the negative of everything but that all changed when Tyler came into my story. Here's a little back story.
Emma's POV 5 years old
Today's my birthday. I don't think anyone remembered though because mama didn't say anything and daddy was sleeping in his chair. It was his chair and if anyone sat in it, that person would get yelled at. He was probably drunk, again.
I got ready for school so I wouldn't get in trouble, though I'll probably still get in trouble anyway. I put on my favorite jeans and a black shirt. I brushed my long brown hair and went to my room to get my school bag. I put on my boots and walked out the front door.
My school was far from my home, so I took the school bus. I wasn't alone in my school bus though my best friend Charlie was in it as well. Her bus stop was much farther though and in the morning I was alone with the bus driver. He was my friend and we always talk in the morning and sometimes he brings me breakfast since my mom and dad don't usually make anything or buy anything for breakfast.
My bus had finally arrived. "Hi Mike!" I said walking in the bus and sitting in the seat behind him.
"Happy birthday pumpkin" He said handing me a gift. It was a small box that had writing all over it.
"Thanks Mikey" I said giving him a hug. I opened the box and inside was a silver chain that had my name on it. I took it out of its box and said
"Can you put it on please?" Mike pulled over to the side of the road and tied the necklace around my neck. I gave him a huge hug and thanked him.
"No problem pumpkin, did your parents wish you a happy birthday this morning?" He asked starting the bus and heading towards the next bus stop.
"No mama was in her bedroom and daddy was still in his chair. I don't think they like me" I said looking out the window.
"Of course they do, they're your parents" He said looking at me threw the mirror.
"I don't know Mike. Daddy and I don't talk much and when we do I get yelled at and mom and I only talk when she wants me to do something. They didn't even wish me a happy birthday..." I said with a tears sliding down my cheeks.
"I'm sorry sweet heart I know it's hard" He said. He then pulled over and stopped the bus. He got up from his seat and picked me up and hugged me tightly. He looked at me straight in the eyes and wiped my tears.
"Hey... no crying. You are a very strong young girl and you know it" He said putting me back down. I wiped another tear away and sat back down in my seat.
We finally got to Charlie's stop. She got on the bus and sat beside me.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!" She almost screamed. I thanked her and I saw Mike smile. She gave me a small box just like Mike's and I opened it. There were two bracelets.
"You get one and I get one" She said taking one of them. The bracelets had white beads and one black bead in the middle. "My mom says that these bracelets mean that we will be best friends forever" She said handing me the other bracelet.
"Thank you Charlie. This way we'll be friends forever!" I said hugging her and looking at our new bracelets.
I hope you liked the first chapter of my book! Please leave a comment, tell me what you think about it and if I should change anything.
Thanks :)
