Leion walked out through his front door into the world. He lived in the coldest part of the Hoenn region. He was fifteen years old and only had his companion of Spheal. Leion had no ambition to be a trainer and run around the world catching all pokemon. He prefered to sit at home and play with Spheal. He wasn't unfit. His short, feather soft, brown hair fluttered in the wind. He was used to the cold so he wore grey cargo shorts, a white shirt with a light blue snowflake on it and a blue jacket. Leion went outside and shoveled his driveway while Spheal played in the snow. Once Leion finished he picked Spheal up and went back in doors. Leion sat on his couch with Spheal in his lap. He had been traveling with his brother who lent him some money so Leion could buy a house of his own. Leion hasn't seen his brother since that day. He turned on his television and watched a commercial about an upcoming tournament. Leion was intrigued and wrote down all the information the commercial gave. His paper read:
"Monotype single elimination tournament
When: January 29
Where: Lumiose City
Who: Anyone who wants to prove their best with a monotype team"
Leion knew that Lumiose city was in the Kalos region. He grabbed his coat and a box from his closet. Inside the box held 20 ultra balls and a master ball. Leion knew the exact team he'd have to build to dominate the tournament. He pulled a cylinder from his coat pocket and opened it up. His entire collection of TM's and HM's. He grabbed an emerald green satchel and put everything inside. He picked up spheal and also put him in the satchel to be with him instead of inside a pokeball. Leion ran out the door and saw a postman walking towards him with a package.
"Hello are you Leion?" The postman asked.
"Y-yes I am." Leion said quite surprised. Leion never got mail because of how remote his location was.
"Well I've got this package for you all the way from the Kalos region from a man named...Alex." The postman said handing Leion the package.
"Thank you. Have a nice day" Leion said to the postman who was already walking away.
Leion went to sit down on his porch and opened the package inside it held a pokeball and a letter. Leion took the pokeball out and set it beside him. Spheal looked at the pokeball curiously. Leion then carefully opened the letter. It read:
"Dear Leion,
I know you've heard about the monotype tournament and are on your way to Lumiose city. You'd better hurry you've got two weeks to train a team. So I sent you something to give you a little jumpstart to help you get everything you need. When we meet up in Lumiose I have a birthday present for you. Kinda ironic this tournament is on the same day as your birthday.

Alex"
Leion took the ball and tossed it. Out from it came a Cloyster. Leion was taken aback. He took out his pokedex and summarized the Cloyster. It was a level 100 Cloyster with the Skill Link ability and the move set of Shell Smash, Poison Jab, Rock Blast, and Icicle Spear.
"Wow...I know I need help but my brother really went all out..." Leion said to himself. He returned Cloyster and put the ball in his bag.
"Hm well at least Alex knew kinda what type of a team I was going to make." Leion pulled out his list and crossed Shellder from it. Leion walked from his house to the bus stop where he took a bus to Slateport City. At Slateport he took a boat to the Sinnoh region where he'd catch the next pokemon on his list, Snover. Leion leaned on the rail with Spheal at his feet. He looked at all the water pokemon enjoying the salty ocean water. Leion looked down into the deep and something caught his eye. A faint red glow from the bottom of the ocean looked Leion in the eye. He blinked and the glow was gone. He turned to look at Spheal who was now on his other side playing with a Snorunt. Leion picked up the Snorunt and walked around the ship asking people if they owned the Snorunt. While wandering around he came across a girl with a light blue shirt, a black skirt, long brown hair,and a yellow bag on her shoulder, searching frantically for something.
"Excuse me..Miss?" He said to her.
The girl looked up at Leion and at Snorunt her glasses falling off her face.
"Oh Snorunt you found her!" She exclaimed taking Snorunt from Leion. The Snorunt protested and jumped back into Leion's arms. The girl looked at Leion and the Snorunt hugging Leion's head.
"Say where are you from?" She asked Leion.
"Uh I come from the Hoenn region I'm on my way to Lumiose City for the tournament." Leion responded.
"Snorunt really seems to like you." She said her green eyes fixed on Leion and Snorunt.
"Yeah, I guess she does" Leion said blushing a little. He wasn't used to this much attention especially from a girl.
"Well you can have her if you want." She said her gaze unmoving.
"R-really?" Leion asked surprised.
"Yeah she doesn't really like me at all..You look like someone.." She said now squinting at Leion.
"Uhh.." Leion stuttered backing away a little blushing more.
" Make you blue eyes...your eyes are the color of ice!" She exclaimed.
"Y-yeah I guess they are." Leion said uncomfortably.
"So..make your eyes darker..your dusty brown hair..white..aand...you'd look like...Alex!" She said clapping her hands together.
"Alex?" Leion asked very surprised.
"Yeah Alex. He's a famous monotype trainer entering the tournament with his beautiful Gardevoir!" the girl said to Leion.
"So..my brother got famous did he?" Leion asked himself
The girl gasped. " Oh my god! You're Alex's younger brother Leion, King of Ice?!"
"King of Ice?" Leion said confused.
"Alex talks about you all the time. He said you'd be coming to the tournament so I'm headed to Lumiose City to meet you two in person!" She gasped. "I've just met Leion, King of ice!"
"Well..You apparently know my name..but what's yours?" Leion asked.
"Oh sorry I am Melody. Also a monotype trainer." She said to Leion her eyes glowing. "I'm entering the tournament to hope to get to battle Alex and you."
"Thats a nice goal but..Alex is unbeatable." Leion said. "I've watched his battles. His pokemon are fast and powerful. Winning against him is near impossible."
Melody laughed. "You're his brother he probably has you taking more than any opponent. I've done a lot of research on you both. Alex pushed you harder hoping you'd get strong enough for you both to dominate the monotype team battle league. But he had the opposite effect and you quit training and secluded yourself in the Hoenn region."
Leion was very surprised about how much Melody already knew about him and Alex.
"Hey would you mind if we battled?" Melody asked Leion. " I wanna know what kind of power the King of Ice possesses."
"Uh sure..but I've only got two pokemon." Leion said pointing at spheal.
"Nuh-uh." Melody said pointing at the Snorunt in Leion's arms and handing him a pokeball he assumed was Snorunts. The two moved to the ship's deck where the arena's were. Multiple trainers were battling to pass the time and test out each other's mono teams. Leion stopped at a battle where it was a Garchomp versus a Infernape. Garchomp took Infernape down without a problem. Leion wasn't sure He'd have enough time to get the pokemon he needed for this tournament.
"Hey Leion over here silly!" Melody called and waved from an empty battlefield. Leion walked over to her and took his spot.
"Ready?" She asked her excitement clear.
"Yeah I guess." Leion said.
"I haven't battled anyone in four years.." Leion thought to himself.
"Go Ditto!" Melody Exclaimed tossing a ball. Out from the ball popped a blue pile of a pokemon.
"Go Spheal!" Leion said as Spheal rolled onto the arena.
The Ditto looked at Spheal and automatically transformed into Spheal.
