Alright, I know it's unusual to put A/N's at the beginning of the chapter, but it's only because this chapter is emotionaly and I don't want to ruin the feeling for you guys at the end of this chapter. This chapter was very emotional for me. In fact, I was near tears while writing it. Lol, I know, I'm such a loser. Well, anyways, please enjoy this chapter. And yes, this is the permenant chapter. 31. Forbidden
It was Wednesday. I was finally leaving that horrible hospital. That place was far too depressing. I still couldn’t walk around like nothing had happened. No, my side had hurt too much for that. I had to walk slower and sometimes stagger. Head rushes were now common and I wasn’t all too thrilled about how my breathing was. I didn’t care how little lung they had removed, breathing just wasn’t the same. It was harder. Throughout the days that I spent at the hospital, the pain had never left. It was kind of lonely, too. Sonia and Alex came everyday, as well as Amorak. He had felt guilty as though all of this was his fault. I think all of Ben’s lecturing had finally gotten to him.
Even though it made me happy to see them, they could never stay long. They had tons of school work and other things to do, so they couldn’t always keep me company. But even throughout my lonely days, Kenai was always there. We would always talk whenever the others weren’t here. What made me a bit angry was the fact that not once had Eric come to see me. I didn’t get one single visit or even a card. Not that I had expected him to do that. I knew he was one of those boys that just wanted a girl for their physical needs. Eric wouldn’t actually care. No, why would he care for the girl that his own father accidentally shot and put in the hospital? But still, it hurt.
As Ben helped me into the car, I noticed that his expression had never changed for the past few days. His face always looked gruff and serious. He had tried to laugh and smile a few times, but it was much too obvious that he was faking it. Ben was still angry about Kenai, and even angrier about everything that I’ve done. Thankfully, he still didn’t know that I snuck out at night to meet with Kenai. If he knew that, then I would be locked in my room for all of damn eternity.
It was really cloudy. I looked outside the window of the old car, watching the town pass by. “Depressing day, isn’t it?” Kenai asked. Yeah, it sure looks like it, I thought. “Your father still isn’t much for talking, is he?” Nope. He tries to avoid talking about you and the accident as much as he can. I looked over to Ben. His eyes were dead on the road. “I suppose you still don’t want me to learn how to drive, eh?” I asked. Ben didn’t so much as look in my direction. “How many times do I have to tell you ‘no’? Besides, you can’t drive in your condition.” He replied. “Condition? What condition? I’m just a little sore, that’s all. Besides, I’m not going to crash, if that’s what your worried about.”
“No is no.” He said stiffly. “Someone’s touchy . . .” Kenai commented. I cracked a smile. Tell me about it, I thought. “What are you smiling about?” Ben asked. I shook my head. “Nothing. Just remembering something funny, that’s all.” I replied. “Funny? There’s nothing funny in this particular situation we’re in.” He said. I gave a sigh. “Ben, calm down already, will you?” For some reason, I was losing the want to call him “Dad.” Ben gave an irritated sigh. “I want you to know that there have been a few changes.” I raised an eyebrow. “What kind of changes?” I asked. “Well, for one, I’m not going to let you visit Amorak’s house unless you have to do some sort of school work with Sonia. Homework doesn’t count. So that means no more bon fires, no more friendly visits, and most importantly, no more spirit crap.”
