Looking down at the mess of papers and books splayed on the dining table I sighed. It had been a long, long day. With work last night, university today and another solid few hours of study ahead, the foreseeable future looked bleak. Pulling the pile of recently developed pictures over to me I began to sort through them, putting the best ones into a pile and discarding the bad ones. Pierce The Veil blasted through my headphones and I wondered how I'd never listened to them before. Their lyrics were so relevant and the guitar riffs rocked. Suddenly the world went dark as something cool was pressed over my eyes. One of my ear buds was pulled out and a voice whispered in my ear.
"Guess who?"
I would've known that voice anywhere. My other ear bud fell from my ear as I whirled around in my chair."Wren!" I cried, I hadn't seen my brother in at least two weeks.
"Hey Tori. What's up?" Wren smiled.
Although my older brother was an aspiring lawyer, you wouldn't tell it by the look of him. His sandy blonde hair hung shaggily around his head, curling at the ears and his long sleeved black V-neck covered up his tattoo sleeve. Wren managed to somehow be my role model and the biggest pain in the butt at the same time, in a way only brothers can. He was the only reason I was a photographer. He was the one who'd initially defied my strict parents who were set on me being a doctor and paved the way for me to be whatever I wanted.
"Um, not much", I replied finally, "What're you doing back here?"
"Am I not allowed to be in my own home?" Wren asked sarcastically, sitting down in the chair next to me.
"Yeah you are, but why are you back?" I retorted.
"Charlie's in New York this week with her sister " He answered.
I nodded as he began to leaf through the pictures. Charlotte or Charlie was Wren's long time girlfriend. They had been dating since tenth grade. Charlie was a tattoo artist and the reason I had my tattoos, she had done both of them. She was like the sister I never had, and I loved her like one. She was the life of any party and I don't think I'd ever heard her say a mean thing about anyone.
"What happened to her sister?" I asked.
"She had her baby. It's a boy", Wren said absently, he was still leafing through my pictures.
"That's great", I replied and my phone buzzed quietly from where it sat at the far end of the table.
"You gonna get that?" Wren asked and I shook my head.
"Nope, it's probably just Katy", I brushed off the message though I felt instantly sick at the thought of another hateful message, "Who's this? He looks really familiar."
Wren was holding up a picture someone had taken of Tony and I at the Pier yesterday. Tony's arm was threaded around my waist and my head was resting against his shoulder. We looked happy and I had to admit we looked cute together. Tony was so much taller than me and I looked tiny.
"Oh that's Tony, we've been hanging out a bit lately."
Wren nodded putting the picture in the pile of keepers, "That's a good one."
"Thanks, I'm gonna go take a shower, ok?"
Wren nodded an ok as I left the table. Walking up the stairs I closed the door to my room and skipped into the bathroom. It was funny how the little things could affect your mood so much. Seeing Wren had made my dull day a whole lot better. Humming to myself as I had a shower, the hot water felt great. Stepping from the shower I dried my body off and wrapped my sopping wet hair in a towel. Pulling on a pair of blue All Time Low booty shorts and a light grey tank top I glanced around my room, looking for something to do. Pulling the black nail polish from my makeup bag I walked down the stairs and into the living room. Flicking on the T.V. I began to paint my nails. Watching the Kardashians argue and covering my nails with the black paint I didn't notice the knock on the door until Wren's voice echoed through the house.
"Uh, Tori? Can you come here please?"
Walking to the doorway I shook my nails, waiting for the polish to dry. Looking at the scene before me I froze. Standing in the open doorway was Tony, with Wren looking him up and down suspiciously.
"Tony." I said, a little stunned, "Ah I mean, Wren meet Tony."
I watched Wren look Tony up and down again, Tony was wearing a tank top and his tattoos were on full display. He looked nervous as Wren looked at him. Walking over to Tony I entwined my fingers with his.
"Like I said Tony and I have been seeing each other a lot lately. Like dating a lot", I said sheepishly.
Wren gave Tony a steely stare before smiling at him, "Hey man. I'm Wren, Tori's brother."
That was the thing about Wren, he was never one to ask too many questions. And unlike my parents he understood that I was a big girl and could make my own decisions.
"Hey", Tony said quietly.
"Come on", I said, pulling Tony into the house to try and eradicate the awkwardness.
Pushing Tony onto the couch I sat down next to him and continued to paint my nails.
"What're you doing here?" I asked quietly, Wren had moved and was sitting on the couch opposite us.
He kept giving me sly smiles and I could feel my cheeks reddening.
"I was bored at home and I was hoping to finish what we started yesterday", Tony answered, equally as quiet.
I smiled, feeling my cheeks redden even more. I thanked God Wren couldn't hear us, "Oh yeah? Is that all I'm here for? Some fun when you're bored?"
Tony dropped his eyes, "No Tori. You know I didn't mean it like that."
I laughed, "I'm kidding."
"Well I'm gonna go", Wren sighed finally.
Glancing up at him I tilted my head, "Where are you going?"
"The guys and I are going to a bar in the city", he said as he got up and walked to the door.
"One sec", I motioned for Tony to stay where he was, following Wren to the door, "Have a good-"
Wren cut me off, "That is Tony Perry from Pierce The Veil sitting in our living room. I knew he looked familiar. How are you dating him? Whatever. Be safe and use protection."
Wren hugged me quickly before walking from the house. Strolling back into the living room. Sitting back down on the couch next to Tony, he wrapped his arm around my waist.
"Your brother seems cool", Tony said.
"Yeah he's the best", I sighed happily.
Suddenly my phone buzzed on the table, Tony looked at it but I just shook my head. Feeling sick again, I had been avoiding looking at my phone all day and I wasn't about to start now.
"Come here", I said pulling his lips down to meet mine.
I felt Tony smile as we kissed. Pulling me onto his lap, he deepened the kiss. Leaning into him I felt my stomach do flip flops. Suddenly Tony fell back onto the couch and I fell on top of him. Tangling my fingers in his hair, he continued to kiss me. Feeling his hands slip under my tank top I shivered as he gently rubbed my sides before tracing his fingers up my spine.
"Woah, woah, woah. Can we just pause this for a second", A voice echoed through the living room.
I felt Tony pull his hands from under my shirt and I sat up, whirling around to see Wren standing in the living room entrance.
"Just forgot my phone", Wren said sheepishly before grinning, "And if you're gonna make a mess, don't do it on the couch. I've got to sit there too."
I felt my cheeks redden and I pressed my hands over my face.
"Be safe", Wren called before ducking from the room.
I heard the front door open and then click closed again. Falling forward I pressed my face into Tony's chest.
"Why does that always happen?" I groaned.
I felt Tony chuckle, "Don't ask me."
