Twenty pairs of eyes stared back at me, their blood pumped through their veins, their hearts beat slightly faster. The teacher shifted, slightly uncomfortable standing next to me. His words echoed in my head with annoyance.
The bright lights were harsh on my eyes, but made the classroom seem like a prison with the dark shadows of the outside. Rain was in the forecast, but it would be much harsher than they predicted on the radio.
The feeling of being watched prickled over my skin as the teacher and students looked me up and down, head to toe. If I wanted to, I could've taken them all out before they even blinked. But of course, I had a cover to keep. A slow smirk spread across my face, which resulted in the heart rate of many to increase.
"Victoria Deven is what they call me. I'm eighteen and I just moved from Ohio, and I like to tell stories."
The lie slipped through my black painted lips with ease. My voice sounded modulated and sweet, as some would say. But all vampires had that certain voice that pulled humans to us, it made eating our victims satisfying. It was an annoyance at most sometimes.
"So you like to write? Stories I mean?"
The voice of the teacher broke whatever spell the humans seemed to be in, and they listened attentively, waiting for my answer. My head tilted slightly, and I glanced at Mr Parkinson. A grin split across my face making him shiver. My fangs wouldn't show unless I wanted them too, but my teeth were still unusually sharp compared to humans.
"Of course, sir."
My reply was slow, a sort of threatening edge I pressed into it. Parkinson's confidence had wavered long ago and was lost, but he swallowed, his jugular moving and blood pumping. Trying to seem brave while in reality he was shaking inside, he smiled at me and gestured with a shaky hand to my seat.
"Thank you Miss Deven. Class pull out your textbooks and turn to page 345. Today we'll be finishing our chapter on the reproductive systems."
My seat was all the way in the back next to some sleeping human. With an eyebrow raised, I quickly scanned him before glancing out the window. The smell of human everywhere was intoxicating. Each heart beat, 568 of them, beat at almost the same pace. Except of course the sleeping one next to me and every other human in this room.
A small smirk stayed on my face the whole class. No one dared to turn and look behind them, only the teacher would look my way and asked me almost all the questions. Of course I replied smoothly with the correct answer. Living forever did have some perks.
