"Barbara lived in the castle with the royal family for about a year before Prince Richard asked for her hand in marriage. They had a beatiful wedding. Prince Richard and Princess Barbara lived happily ever after. The end." Alferd Pennyworth closed the large book on his lap.
"Alfie, you can't just end a story there!" John Grayson said.
"Goldie is kinda right. What ever happened to Prince Jason and Princess Blair? Did they have a handsome son who ruled all of Gotham?" Hunter Todd asked.
"I like the way the story ended," Elizabeth Grayson said.
"What your opinion is on the end of the book does not change the fact you three must go to bed." Whines filled the ears of the beloved butlet. "No buts! If you do not go to bed this instant, no chocolate chip cookies for a week!" All the children sprinted to their beds. Alferd first tucked in Hunter.
"I'm only going to bed because I have to."
"Of course Master Hunter. Sweet dreams."
Than Alferd tucked in John.
"Thanks for the story Alferd!"
"Anytime Master John. Sweet dreams."
Finally Alferd tucked in little Elizabeth.
"Alferd?"
"Yes, Mistress Elizabeth?"
"Can real people get a happily ever after?" The old man smiled.
"Yes. A happily ever after is loving your life and even if you go through hard times finding a something to look forward to. Good Night Mistress Elizabeth, sweet dreams."
Alferd began his ritual of making sure the kitchen was spotless before retiring to bed. When he was almost finished the front door creaking open, revealing Blair, Jason, Barbara, and Dick.
"How were the kids?" Dick whispered.
"Wonderful. We read a story." Blair picked up the book.
"Did Pix make this? It seems like something she would do."
Alferd smiled, "No Mistress Pixie and did not make this book. It has been in the Wayne library since before I started working here." The adults looked at Alferd with disbelief.
"Good night and sweet dreams to you all."
