{Austin}

I'm sitting in Calli's room after her surgery. Dr. Richards said Calli would probably be sleeping most of the day, if not for the next couple days. I take one of her hands in mine. The only sound in the room is the heart monitor and her IV making occasional dripping noises.

I smile up at her. She looks peaceful while she sleeps. My thumb softly strokes her hand.

"When you wake up, you have to tell me where we're going in vacation." I whisper. "While you were in the coma I promised we'd go away. Just you and I. And that's what we're going to do." I bring her hand to my mouth, softly kissing it. "And that's a promise."

The heart monitor starts beeping rapidly. Calli's heart beat is increasing. Suddenly her body starts trashing around on the bed. I don't know what to do. I stand up from my chair. Her body shakes harder, she's about to fall off the bed. Quickly, I press the call button before throwing my body on top of hers.

The door slams open as her doctor and a few nurses pack into the room. I let go of her body, slowly backing away.

Dr. Richards turns to me. "Austin you need to leave. Now."

His expression is serious, so I know not to question him. I back out of the room slowly so I can see what's happening. I close the door right as a nurse injects her arm, making her body go limp.

Mrs. Kelly is outside the door. She stares at me horrified. "Austin? What happened?" She asks.

"I don't know." I run my hands through my hair. "She was fine at first. Then she started shaking. She almost fell off the bed." I'm on the verge of tears myself, but I want to be strong for Mrs. Kelly.

"Oh no." She whispers as tears stream down her face. "He said this could happen to her."

"What do you mean? What's happening?"

Mrs. Kelly sniffs. "Dr. Richards told me that because of Calli's brain damage she could suffer from seizures for the rest of her life." She speaks slowly, as if her worst nightmare just came true.

I sink to the floor. This can't be happening. First she won't be able to dance again, and now she'll have seizures? What else can they throw at us?

Finally Dr. Richards comes out of Calli's room. He looks at Mrs. Kelly and I. "We're taking her in for a CAT scan. She's still unconscious right now. We should have results within an hour." He turns and opens the door wider. Calli is rolled out in her bed. The nurses roll her all the way down the hallway turning into a room.

Mrs. Kelly and I sit anxiously waiting for the results. Her knees bounce up and down as she chews on her nails. Dr. Richards walks through the swinging doors. We stand up slowly and walk over to him.

"We'll the results aren't good." He says. "Calli is suffering from Post traumatic Epilepsy."

"I've never heard of that." Mrs. Kelly says. "I don't understand."

Dr. Richards sighs. "The damage caused to Calli's head ruptured blood barriers in her brain. This is what causes the seizures."

"Can she be cured?" I ask.

Dr. Richards shakes his head. "Unfortunately no. But it is treatable."

"What do we need to do?" Mrs. Kelly asks.

"You have two options. There I medication therapy which will help her control it, or an alternative is surgery. The surgery is a bit more complicated though."

"How so?" She asks.

"It's difficult. It doesn't always work and sometimes can cause even more damage than there already is."
