{Austin}
"He's coming to."
"His heart rate is increasing."
Feet are running, wheels are squeaking.
"She's still not conscious."
"She's lost a lot of blood."
"Where's the younger one?"
"He's coming in now."
There's a faint light as my eyes start to open.
My eyes flutter open. The first thing I see is my mom. She looks like she's been crying. She reaches for my hand.
"Austin." She sighs. "I'm so glad you're ok."
I look around at the bare gray walls. I'm in a hospital. "Mom? What happened?" My voice is hoarse.
"You were in a car accident, with Calli and Grey." She says starting to cry again. "A car rear-ended Calli's car, and the she was t-boned on the driver's side." She speaks slowly, trying to keep her voice steady.
I try to sit up, but my arms and my neck start hurting. "Where are they?" I wheeze out. "Are they ok?"
"Grey's in the room next door. His face is scratched up from the glass shattering, and so are his arms. Other than that he's fine." She says, avoiding all eye contact with me.
"Mom. What about Calli?" I ask my voice cracking. She still won't look at me. "Mom answer me!" I yell.
She jumps at me raising my voice. "Austin." She whispers. "Calli is.." She sighs. "Calli's in a coma."
I stare at my mother unable to speak. "No. She-she can't be."
"Austin I'm sorry." She sobs. "Baby, I'm so sorry, but she is."
Tears spill out of my eyes. I trash around on the hospital bed screaming. I try to climb off the bed, but my mom hold me down with one hand, the other hitting a button by the bed. The door flies open and nurses come running in. They're holding me down, just trying to get me to stop screaming. Suddenly I feel something sharp inject into my shoulder. I'm losing all tension in my muscles. Everything goes black.
{Fourteen hours later-10:00AM the next morning}
I wake up feeling groggy. My mind goes back to my conversation with my mom. Calli's in a coma. Tears leak out once again. My mom isn't in the room this time. I put my hand on my neck. There's a brace. The door opens and a man in a white coat walks toward me.
"Hi Austin I'm Dr. Connor." He says standing next to me. "Your mom told you about the accident, right?"
I nod my head.
"And she told you about the others in the car?"
Once again I nod. "Can I see them please?" Desperation evident in my voice.
"Yes you can." He says. "Luckily you and Grey sustained minor injuries, so you're both being released."
"When will Calli be released?" My voice is cracking.
"Once she wakes up from the coma, and we've made sure she's strong enough to take care of herself again."
"Does anyone know what happened at the light?" I ask.
He nods. "The person that rear-ended the car was texting, and didn't see the car stopped. The person that t-boned the car, however was drunk. He didn't stop at all."
"Are they ok?"
Dr. Connor nods again. "They both had small injuries, nothing serious. The drunk driver is going to jail, and the rear-ender is getting a ticket."
