"Laus please, go pick up John." My mom is looking at me in a very serious way.
John is my older brother. He's 18, only 2 years older than me. But even so, I'm more responsible than him.
"But mom, why do I have to go? What about..." I start saying but she cuts me off.
"He's probably at Kelly's hanging out with Rob. You are the only one who knows how to get there."
"But..."
"It's not an option. Go. Now."
I roll my eyes and get out of the kitchen. I don't know why is mom so mysterious but if I don't go to pick up John, I won't know.
And I really wanna know.

"Hey!" Kelly is in front of me, looking at me with a weird face. "What are you doing here? Have you been running? You look really tired."
"Hey. I'm looking for John, I came as fast as I could, you know my mom wants to tell us something important."
"You really look exhausted. John's upstairs with Rob playing videogames, come in!" Rob is Kelly's older brother. He's 18, just like John, they go to the same class at school.
I enter the house and follow her upstairs.
"Rob!" Kelly yells.
"Here!" Rob shouts from his room.
Kelly guides me to Rob's room. When we cross the door, a musty smell makes me sneeze.
"Laus? What are ya doing here?" John is sitting next to Rob. His blond hair is sweaty and his brown eyes are irritated. How long have they been playing video games?
"Whoa, it's nice to see you too." I say in a sarcastic tone.
"Hey, what's going on? You look like you came running all the way from home." Rob says.
"I did."
"Why?" Rob's blue eyes are looking at me in disbelief. He's so perfect. His brown hair is messy and he looks pretty good. If he wasn't Kelly's brother I would probably be in love with him.
"My mom sent me to pick up John, she wants to tell us something important." And I really want to know what it is!! "Oh and you are late for dinner."
"K, let's hear what they wanna tell us." John stands up.
Whoa, what a miracle! He didn't even ask for another round!
"Bye guys. See you around!" Rob says rising. He's really nice and tall, it's a pity he's the brother of my best friend...
We say our good byes and leave.
On our way home, we start guessing what is that so-important thing they want to tell us. At least I know we didn't win the lottery.
When we arrive, Charlie opens the door.
We enter the kitchen, where mom's sitting with dad and Martha. They've already started to eat dinner.
"Hey,"John says "is there anything you want to tell us?"
"Yes, we have to talk." Dad looks serious and a little bit sad.
"Ok, what are you waiting for?" I say, I'm really impatient.
"It's hard to tell." Mom says.
SAY IT PLEASE!
"Business isn't going well and soon the company will have a bankruptcy. Which means all of the employees will be fired." My dad says.
The announcement hits me. My father fired? He's the best businessman in the world! He can't be fired...
Well, thinking in a positive way, I'm sure he'll find another job, even better that the one he had.
"Dad, does that mean you have no job?" Charlie says.
"No kiddo, I still have a job but it's a matter of time that..." My dad replies.
"I'll look for a job. That way I can help you with the bills while you are looking for another job." Mary announces.
"I can sell my new bicycle if that helps." Charlie lets out.
I love my family, seriously. If someone's in trouble, we all go and help. I would never change my family, for nothing in this world.
"Thanks Mary, but meanwhile..." Dad starts replying.
My mom cuts him off "We've been talking about it with Aunt Rose. We are going to sell Tradenans mansion."
Whoa, what? The idea of selling the old house at Tradenans hits me. What are we going to do on holidays from now on? And what about my cousins? Well... These past two years they didn't go there but even so...
"But... mom! It's the house of my childhood, our childhood!" John is now standing.
He's one of the oldest brothers so he's got more memories from that place than Charlie and I.
"Yeah, he's right! What about us?" Mary looks worried.
She's the one that has more memories from that mansion. For her, Tradenans is a sacred place where some of the best moments of her life happened.
"Mary, your father and I made decision." My mom concluded.
"In that case... Where are we going on holiday?" Charlie doesn't seem to be very affected by the Tradenans news.
"We'll see." My dad answers.
We start talking about new jobs and places to go in summer. It's funny how my family can transform a clearly bad thing into a new experience or something even exciting.
This night I'm going to sleep very well... Seriously, like an angel. I'm really tired...
Wait. Why can't I fall asleep?
Oh shit.
On Wednesday I have my piano test, which means I only have tomorrow to practice the sonata.
