It is still dark when I awake. I see a light far off. I immediately bring my gun up ready to fight but I stay quiet. If I can I would like to stay unnoticed so I won't be forced to kill. But wait it is a torch? That is strange because the Others who invaded our planet do not need light to hunt. And the 5th wavers use flashlights in their guns. Even I am not stupid enough to light a fire like that, it would draw too much attention. Unless that is what they are trying to do? It can't be the Others they are more into stealth and sniping. It could be the 5th wavers trying to attract us, or what they think is the Others. See the Others attacked in waves. First wave, lights out they cut the power and cars crashed, phones went dead, everything was out. Second wave, surfs up the water took out hundreds. Third wave, disease this took out thousands. It drove my mom crazy, she didn't even know who I was in the end. Fourth wave, silencers. The Others took their most elite and sent them out to pick us off and my dad he well he uh anyway. Fifth wave, they trained our own species against us. They tricked the children and teens to think we are the enemy. They told them the Others were a parasite and gave them head sets that glow green when someone is human. But they were told if you see green shoot to save the planet. I should know I was one of them. I escaped by faking my death on a mission. They all think I'm dead and have no idea that I stole a head set and know who is the real enemy. They come closer to my tree. The brush I put over the platform I built conceals me well. I quickly fasten the head set on. Through my mask they grow green. I relax and let out a sigh. When they are right under my tree Lola awakes and starts to growl. Low at first then she snarls giving away our cover and starts to bark and take on a defensive stance in front of me. "Woah, Lola calm down they are human," I say and she calms but her fur is bristled and she has a ferocious look on her face. I trained her to know the word human and the Others. Also hostile human because people do get desperate in times like this. "Hello, hey get out here I need to know what you are," a woman says with two men by her side. "If you are an Other stay in that tree or you will be dead before you touch the trigger guard," she says firmly. I place my gun by my side and peek my head out from the platform to see a gun in my face. She seems to be an escaped 5th waver too I can see her register my humanity in her head set. "Your human? Did you escape the 5th wave too? What is your name? I am Mia," she says within a few seconds. She seems to get right to the point. She has beautiful golden hair with hazel eyes and many freckles. Mia seems so small and petite but I know a leader when I see one. I climb out of the tree and stash the gun in the back of my pants and hoist Lola with me. "Nice to meet a human for once or at least one that isn't trying to kill me. I am Shilo." I tower over her. Mia seems to be about 5' 3'' and me well I am 6' even. My dark brown hair drapes over my face. My smooth brown skin on my hand is covered in fur from holding Lola back. "I haven't seen a friendly human in a year," I inform Mia. "Well there is more like us. We have a camp just a few miles from these woods." "Oh well you know you could get killed holding a torch up like that," I tell her. "Maybe, if I didn't have 15 scouts in the woods searching for silencers and keeping eyes on us," she says with a wink. "We use the torch to seek out survivors. We are growing a surviving camp that will soon have its own army." "Wow you have big plans." "Yes we do," Mia says with a sly smile. "So you in or what Shilo?" "Depends do you take dogs?" I ask with a playful smile.
