"Bion, Bion!" "Huh? What?," I say. "Are you listening?" Barks the commander. "Yea uh-huh kill the leader of the surviving humans," I say. I am not really listening to the specifics. All I can think about is her. How she walked right into their camp, how she shot me when she thought I was a 5th waver. Which I did pose as to test her strength. How many times I had a clear shot to kill her, but I didn't. With others I didn't hesitate or even have a second thought. I just silently took from them their fragile life without feeling a hint of guilt. Then I thought of if she died how I would feel. She doesn't even know how many silencers tried to kill her and I was the one who put them down. She doesn't know that I have already gone through 30 to keep her alive. I still remain one of the most trusted. We only have 12 left, but that isn't a problem because we have many kids involved in the 5th wave operation. What if she became the next leader? She does have the courage, the trustworthiness, the honesty, and most of all the fierceness. Would I be the one to steal her life? Would I be the one to rip her soul from her body? I don't think I could do that. We always follow orders and she is the only one I didn't listen to. We were instructed to kill every human on sight. But no I couldn't do that to her. From the moment I saw her I couldn't. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I sprinted across the forest chasing him, the young man who was stupid enough to light a fire. He tripped in front of me. He scrambled away as I stood over him. I drew my knife and in the blink of an eye I slashed his throat. I hear the gurgling noises of him choking on his own blood and dig the blade into his heart. As I wipe my blade clean with my bloody handkerchief I hear it, the barking. How can that be? I could tell it was a defensive bark. Only to protect ones master. I swiftly sped to the sound. I saw a dog at the bottom of a tree challenging a snake. The constrictor didn't seem to back down. I watched as the dog protected the tree so viciously. Is it possible its master died there? Is the dog protecting their final resting place perhaps? The dog lunged forward and sunk its teeth into the body of the snake. It released the snake and blood dripped from its mouth. I stayed thinking maybe the master was alive and was away. Then I saw a girl climb down the tree. She had beautiful dark tannish skin, glorious brown eyes, and silky deep dark brown hair. She wore two dog tags around her neck that I noticed. She held her gun and looked around cautiously. When she thought no one was there she rubbed the dogs ears and smiled. "Nice kill Lola looks like you got yourself dinner. Eat up," her voice was smooth and gorgeous. I brought out my sniper rifle ready to complete the job after witnessing the kill. But when I looked through the scope and pointed it at her head I started to feel something. Something that twisted in my gut and made me feel uneasy. It was, uncertainty. I was uncertain she deserved to die. She never did anything to bring this upon her. She never asked for a life of killing. And at that moment I knew I just couldn't kill her.

I was pulled from my reminiscing by the commander. "Yes that was the assignment now then you will have to be careful she is well protected and has placed many scouts among the woods for protection," he exclaimed. "So due to this matter we are doing things a little differently, I am going to place you on the inside. You will pose as a human who has escaped from the 5th wave and has lost his family." "Now then I am going to give you a chip that will make you glow green in the head sets so they will assume you are human. Go to the operation room and we can get started," the commander says. "Yes sir!" I march off with the commander to the operation room. I lay face down on a table and sit still as a doctor cuts open the back of my calf with a scalpel. "We are inserting here as a hard to look place. The humans will probably check your neck to be sure nothing's there," the doctor explains. I honestly don't care how the procedure and preparation is done just as long as I get to see her. When the procedure is done the commander leads me to a room where I will be dressed to look like I come from the 5th wave project. The commander even throws a few punches so it looks like I really escaped. Then I am sent off to do what must be done. I walk and walk and walk until I finally reach the camp. I cut my face with a dagger and put a deep cut wound in my arm. I wipe the blade and hold the handkerchief over my already bleeding arm. "Help," I cry out to the people standing watch as I emerge from the brush. They nod at one another and open the gate. quickly two men come out and one holds me upright as I bleed out and the other checks my neck and looks through the glass on his head set. He falls for the hoax. "Hey go get Mia," the one holding me tells the other. He nods and runs back into the camp. The other is short compared to me, I have about 4 inches on him. I could easily kill him even with my injured arm. He drags me into camp and leads me to a tent. We trudge in and he lays me on a cot. A middle-aged women runs over to us and asks what happened. "He can't talk he has lost to much blood I think he is going into shock," the guy tells her. I pretend to be out of it. She rushes off and comes back with meds, bandages, and alcohol. She quickly gives me pain medication and pours alcohol over my wound to clean it. I scream out in pain to sell it when really all I feel is a pinch. "Oh dear I'm sorry," she apologizes. "He needs stitches, needle and thread stat," the doc orders. The guy hands it to her and she starts to stitch and Mia bursts through the tent. I see her and tense when I feel the needle dig deeper into my skin. Mia dashed over just as the doc finishes stitching. She starts to rap my arm and Mia bombards me with questions. I don't listen to a word she saws all I'm focused on is the precious tall beauty behind her, the one I can never hurt, Shilo.
