"Excuse me! Hello, sir are you listening?" It took 5 minutes of Mia's constant babbling before I was taken back to reality. Shilo was so gorgeous I could barely keep my eyes off her. "Mia this man has suffered a serious injury. He needs rest," says the doctor. "Ugh rest, rest! Doc can I speak with you outside please," Mia says and the doctor stands and swiftly crosses the room to the door. I am left alone with a few patients, my "savior" or what is believed to be, and Shilo. She looks at me and I can see her searching her thoughts for the recognition she sees in my face. "Do I know you?" She says. "No," I keep it short. I don't want her to find out. She will soon come up with the reason she knows me. I will have to come up with an excuse for that one. "Hmm," Shilo says suspiciously. I look over to my so called savior, "Thank you, you are one of the few kind and pure souls I have met. I can see in your heart you were never born to be a killer, but circumstances have forced you to kill and for that I am sorry." "Wow you can really read people," he says astonished. "Thanks for the apology but I would like one from the scum bags who killed my family and made me blood thirsty," he exclaims. He does not know that I am one of the, I quote, scum bags. His trusting heart is so fragile and I hate to ruin it. Mia and the doctor come back in. "Has he said anything?" She says with much impatience. "Yes," Shilo rats me out. "He is in perfect shape to answer your questions." "Well then tell me what happened Mr. uh?" "The names Bion, Bion Patel," I tell her.
"Alright Bion let's start with how you escaped the 5th wave project," Mia says. "Well I was on a mission after I had figured out the truth and I went off on my own to pretend I was looking for Others but I planned to take a run for it," I told her while keeping my peripheral vision on Shilo. "I was running towards this rebel camp because I heard the commanders talking about it. But when I was running here I saw a silencer just outside the camp about to shoot the watch guards. I tackled him and threw his gun out of reach and he whipped out a knife. I had my gun and tried to shoot but he cut my arm and almost chopped it off. I dropped the gun and he kicked it away." "I guess he wanted a little face to face action instead of sniping. Anyway I had been thoroughly trained almost too well. I fought with him and he realized he was over his head and took off. I had great height on him. I was bleeding out so I didn't follow. And that is what happened," I told the fake story I had been commanded to memorize. "Uh-huh well thank you I will get my guard to go and search for a trail that silencer left. I'm surprised, I instructed everyone to be very serious about this and to thoroughly cover the area. Rest up I will see you later to get you a tent and Shilo would you be glad to give him the tour," Mia asked. "Me?" Shilo said with excitement swelling up in her face. "I would be honored," she said with a beaming smile. Mia winked and smiled back. She left the tent and I could tell Shilo was happy to be doing something. "Hey I'm Bion," I held out my good hand. "Shilo," she took my hand in a firm grip but shook with grace. Everything about her was great. "Well let's get going," I sat up. "Woah," She stopped me by touching my bare chest. The doctor had ripped off my shirt to treat the wound. Her soft hands pushed me back down on the cot. "You need to rest, you just lost plenty of blood," Shilo told me. If only she knew what I was she would know that was nothing. I have endured worse in training. My species heals quickly. Our bodies may be down but we keep our hearts beating long enough to fix ourselves up. "I'm fine, I'm a big boy," I say playfully. She laughs and pushes me lightly on my shoulder. Her laugh is the sweetest thing you could ever hear. "Alright I will make you a deal you sleep for one or two hours while I get breakfast and then I will bring you some. You will eat and then we can go," she says. "Ok?" "Fine," I tell her. I know the body does need a little time to recover. "Oh and I will see about getting you a new shirt," she says, while looking at my chest. She looks longer than someone else would have wanted but I'm happy this body pleases her. "Come on you know you like it," I say. "I probably have the most rocking abs you have ever seen," I joke. She laughs, "Yea right you are probably all talk and more squish." She says and gazes back at my muscles. I know she likes what she sees. I can see her eyes light up. "Ok then I will see you soon rest," she tells me. Shilo can be bossy. She leaves the tent. I watch her go and shut my eyes.

"How do I know your human?" She screams at me. Her head set has been shattered and I know her other one is back at her camp. This works out well for me. "You don't," I tell her. I hate to see how this will pain her. If she finds out I am an Other she will be fine, but as far as she knows I could be human. And if I know her she will shoot me. This was supposed to be a test of her strength, but when I really think about it I just wanted to meet her. I know what she will do, to be safe. My strong, brave girl. "All I can tell you is I am human," I say with a fake groan. I shot my leg so she could not take me back to camp to find out who I really was. "I am bleeding out and I won't last much longer." "How can I be sure what if you are an Other tricking me," Shilo says. "You cannot be sure but I need help," I plead. "Please, I am human." She goes over it in her head. I know she had made the decision already, but she wants an alternative. Which she will not find. "I'm sorry," she says and a tear rolls down her cheek as she shoots me in the chest. I start to cough up blood. It hurts but she missed my heart so I can survive. I clutch my chest and groan. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," Shilo says and runs away tears streaming down her face. She never came to that gas station again.

I wake with a start, I can still see Shilo's tears roll off her face in my mind. The memory was intense. I am still sweating. "Hey there," Shilo is next to me with a plate of bacon and eggs. "Nightmare," she asks with a look of concern. "Just memories," I explain. "Your family?" Shilo questions. "No, someone very important to me though," I say. "Oh well we can exchange life stories later you should eat," she says and puts the plate under my nose. "Smell that? That is some darn good pig." I smile and start to eat.
