Ava Novell.
"Ava I want my house clean, stop being lazy all the damn time and do the shit right and I won't have to yell at you," My mom yelled, sweeping the broom.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head trying to stay calm, "I'm trying," I said below a whisper wiping the baseboards of the walls of our home.
"Whatever, go pick Emoni up from the bus stop, I got some clients coming in a hour, and I need you here to help me," My mom demanded, while walking back to the part of the house where her Salon was located. As she was walking I heard her scream at my little brother Mace to pick his mess up.
My mom began to do hair after she graduated high school because, it was her talent. She was in her early thirties and was running her own Salon called Tina Styles.
I nodded my head and went to get dressed, I walked upstairs to my bedroom pulling out the shoes my mother went and bought me a few days ago.
"Ma can I use your car to go pick her up," I asked hopeful, she shook her head no and continued her phone call with her clients that would be coming in soon.
I rolled my eyes and walked out the house to the bus stop where my little sister was about to get off the bus at. The bus stop was about 10 minutes away from our house.
I just wish my mom let me go to school but she want me to stay home and take care of her children.
When I was close to her bus stop I seen the bus pulling up coming to a stop. I spotted Emoni walking down slowly in search of me causing me to smile. I walked up to her and wrapped my arm around her shoulder smiling.
Emoni was only 11 years old but she was so smart for her age and quiet but she was also afraid. She had a difficult time speaking because, her words would come out inaudible or jumbled up sometimes so people would pick on her for it.
"How was your day," I asked, as she clutched her math book to her chest with both arms. She smiled letting me know that it was better than usual and people was being nicer to her.
It was only October so the weather was beginning to change but it wasn't to cold out, it felt nice and relaxing. "I like this weather," Emoni mumbled,
I nodded my head agreeing with her, "It is nice, I might take you and Mace to go and get ice cream," I said, squeezing her tightly. She nodded her head and smiled big letting me know that she was hoping we can go.
Once we got back to the house my mom client was walking in and she was a few minutes early. I pulled Emoni into the house because, I don't feel like hearing my mom mouth about me trying to be fast outside her house.
"I gotta go help mama with the Salon in the back, sit at the table and do your homework, and if you get hungry make some noddles to last you till we cook, okay." I instructed, I rushed to my bedroom to change into comfortable clothes knowing that I would be back there for a while.
Our house was separated in two parts, it was the house my mother grew up in with her 6 siblings. So it was big enough for all of us plus the salon.
I walked to the back and noticed my mom top clients sitting there waiting.
"Hey Ava," Latrice spoke, looking up from her phone.
"Hey Ms. Latrice," I waved, back smiling.
"Why yo mama got you back here, you need to be out with you friends enjoying the nice day out. You only 16 she got you acting grown," Latrice joked.
I laughed and shrugged it off. "It's fine, I don't have many friends anyways,"
I tied the apron around my waist and put my hair up into a ponytail.
"You ready," I asked Latrice, and she nodded her head and got up. I walked her to an unoccupied seat in front of the mirror. My mom taught me how to do hair around the age 12 and I been one of her workers since then.
She sat down at the seat, I went to the area where my mom kept the shampoo and conditioner. I grabbed both bottles and a salon cape and my mom stopped me while I was walking back.
"Be upstairs when I'm done, I need you to count some stuff up for me," I nodded my head and walked back to where Latrice was.
"How you want your hair today," I asked, taking her hair out of the ponytail holder and running my fingers through it untangling it. You could tell Latrice was in her twenties she was a beautiful women that I enjoyed to be around. Her brown skin glowed, her jet black hair, and hazel eyes complimented her.
"I don't know I have a blind date tonight, and I want to look sexy," She laughed, shaking her hair.
"I got the perfect style," I grinned.

"How you like it," I asked, turning her chair around.
"I love it," She said in awe. Her hair was curled completely all around which was completely a different look for her, it was always either straight or curly from being washed.
"Your welcome anytime girl," I smiled, and gave her a hug as she got up. She gave me a tip and I thanked her for it. Once she paid me, I put the money in my bra because, we didn't keep our cash laying around even though we trusted them you never knew people motives some days.
My mom just finished up her last client along with me. We cleaned up our stations and listened to the music that played through the speakers. Once we were done she cut off the lights and locked the doors.
"You could've straightened her hair better, I wouldn't of tip you if I was her," She shrugged, walking towards her room. I rolled my eyes and continue to follow behind her so I can count this money and go about my day.
"Here," She said, tossing me 2 duffle bags. I poured the money out on the bed and began counting.
"Go close the door," She ordered, I got up and closed and locked the door.
"I need you to bag this up for me, and don't fuck it up." She snapped, handing me a different duffle bag from her closet. As soon as I opened the bag the smell of weed hit me instantly.
The nice clothes and nice house didn't come from working hard at the Salon. It was deeper than that and nobody seem to realize it.
This is short I know, I just wanted to see if you guise liked this?
It probably seem boring now but it's not going to be I have a lot of plans for this book.
