"We were never in love, but oh, God, we could've been."
Brunch with Bruce was brilliant.
Yes, I had to do that.
But seriously, we did have a good time. He was extremely funny, from his sarcastic marks about the teenage staff and they're transition through puberty, to his 'so-dumb-it's-funny' one-liners.
I want to say he distracted me from my problems with Clark, but then, sadly, I'd be lying.
The more I laughed, the more I thought of how comedic Clark was.
When he insisted to pay, I thought of how Clark had said the exact same thing the night before.
When Bruce's eyes lit up, I couldn't help but think they weren't as deep as Clark's cerulean ones.
It was like no matter what, I couldn't get rid of the thought of Clark. The place where we ate was right across the road from where Clark took me to dinner. So it was no wonder Bruce caught me staring there very often.
"Is there a reason you keep looking over at that restaurant?" He looked at me intently. I just shrugged. "Oh, c'mon McKinley. I may have just met you, but it's kind of obvious something's distracting you. What's going on?" I sighed. I could just keep pretending, but Bruce was actually quite persistent, and probably wouldn't just drop it.
"A few days ago, I met this guy. He was so sweet, and handsome, and all around amazing, and last night, we almost--" I stopped short, but I'm confident he caught on. "But then he just, he left. And ever since, I've felt so insecure. And I just, I can't stop thinking about it." I confessed. Honestly it felt like a humongous weight was lifted, but also like I was being a burden placing my problems on Bruce.
"Well, that's completely ridiculous," Upon seeing my face, Bruce chuckled. "What I mean is, you shouldn't feel insecure. Obviously, he just wasn't ready, or you make him insecure; I say this, because you literally drop dead gorgeous. And any man you were ready to give yourself to is literally the luckiest man alive. So there obviously had to be a reason he backed out. Give him time and he may tell you."
"Thanks so much Bruce. I didn't think I could tell anyone; I was that embarrassed. And now you that you know, I'm putting all of my trust in you."
"And you can. I'd like to say I'm extremely trustworthy," He sipped his tea. "And if you ever decide you want to give yourself to me in compensation, I would completely understand." I checked the time on my phone. 1:43. We had been here for almost 4 hours, just talking!
"Oh my gosh, goodbye you idiot."
