Brother

Rachel: FAMILY?!?!? What do you mean you're my family? How are we related??

I stand up when Yamato tells me the shocking news.

Yamato: Calm down Rachel. Sit down and just listen to me.

I exhale and sit down next to Yamato.

Rachel: Sorry. Please continue.

Yamato nods his head and takes a deep breath.

Yamato: I didn't want to tell you....but when I came to see you in the hospital when you woke up...that was the first time we met. And I didn't want to tell you because you just woke up and everything. It would've been a lot to take in. And I--

I sigh.

Rachel: Just tell me man!!

He stops mid sentence.

Yamato: I'm your older brother. My name isn't Yamato Kido. It's Yamato Kougami. I heard about what happened with you going into the hospital because you were hit by a truck and....I had to come back to Tokyo to see you. I'm so sorry for not telling you sooner!

Yamato bows his head slightly.

Rachel: Wow....I have an older brother...? But wait! Why didn't mom and dad tell me about you?

Yamato raised his head but keeps his gaze cast downward.

Yamato: When you were about...3 or 4 I was 16. So legally I could've moved out. And I did. Me and dad didn't get a long very well...and so I left home. Our parents weren't very happy about that so...I'm guessing they decided not to say anything to you about me.

I run my hand through my hair, trying to comprehend everything he just said.

Rachel: Wow....I can't believe it....wait. How'd you find out about me going into the hospital?

Yamato: I kept in touch with a few people who knew my family back when I still lived there. One of them found out about you and texted me about it.

I look at Yamato and ask him another question.

Rachel: Wait....how come you don't really look like me...or mom and dad?

Yamato looks away and has a sadness in his eyes.

Yamato: I'm not...'fully' related to you. I'm...actually a half brother. Dad...had me with another woman when he was in high school.

I have a look of confusion on my face.

Rachel: I can't believe dad would do that....I'm sorry. That must be hard. Do you know who your mother is?

Yamato looks downwards and begins to speak.

Yamato: No, I don't. Our dad told me that she left me with him when I was a year old. So I have no memories of my mother. I don't even know if she's alive or not.

I grab Yamato's hand and squeeze it lightly.

Rachel: I'm sorry. That must be hard.

Yamato looks at me with a shocked expression and squeezes my hand back.

Yamato: Thank you Rachel. I really appreciate that.

I smile at Yamato and he smiles back.

Rachel: You're welcome. I'm glad I could help. I mean, you are my Brother!

Yamato looks at me and widens his eyes. Looking like he's thinking and snaps out of his trance.

Yamato: U-um...look at the time. We should probably head to bed. I'll go set up your bed in the guest room.

Yamato gets up and goes into the bedroom.

'This is my new home.....'

This chapter was really short! I'm sorry! This was kind of just a filler update. I've been having writers block again!!! Ugh! Struggles. Lol but I will try to update soon!!
