The carriage was incredibly bumpy in this part of London. The cobble stones beneath the wheel where large and unkempt, they were broken and abandoned instead of fixed and large unidentified objects lay in between the stones. The earl was disgusted by the view outside and decided to take a nap but was finding it increasingly difficult. Noticing him struggle, Sebastian shifted over to Ciel's side of the carriage.

"W-what are you doing Sebastian" Ciel blushed and stared back at Sebastian.

"Forgive me master but it looks like you are having a hard time sleeping, if you would like I can hold you so the ride is a tad more comfortable?" This only made Ciel blush even harder and his heart began to pump faster. Embarrassed, he agreed to Sebastian's offer and climbed into his butler's arms. Just as promised the ride was smooth but he couldn't help but notice how he had reacted to Sebastian. They reached their destination and pulled up just down the road from a rather noisy inn, Sebastian helped Ciel out of the carriage onto the cobble floor covered in what they both hoped was mud.

"Unfortunately we had to stop a little distance so as to not blow our cover, I can carry you if you wish?" Sebastian said with a slightly patronising smirk across his lips to which Ciel passed the offer up. Both of them were in disguise, Ciel was dressed in his cap, waistcoat and bow while Sebastian on the other hand was dressed in a large coat, striped trousers, black shoes accompanied by a shirt, waistcoat and red tie. Despite the ordinary clothing Ciel couldn't help but notice how surprisingly elegant his butler looked. Sebastian noticed Ciel staring and turned to face him, a sickly smile on his face.

"Can I help you, young master?" he asked staring into Ciel's eyes making his cheeks burn a fiery red.

"Uhhh um no NO! umm you have dust on your shoulder" He said quickly before turning his head down to the cobblestones slowly getting faster and faster as he walked. Sebastian gave his master a little chuckle and picked the boy up in his arms.

"PUT ME DOWN THIS INSTANT! PUT... ME... DOWN!" the boy shouted as he wriggled and writhed in Sebastian's arms.

"We are losing time I will get us there faster if I carry you" Sebastian replied gripping the boy tighter the more he struggled like a snake with a mouse. It only took roughly 5 minutes to arrive at the hotel with Sebastian holding Ciel, he placed the boy back onto his feet and they surveyed the building. It was a large building with a small driveway and a place for carriages to park. The building was made from a mixture of muddy brown bricks with paler bricks on the corners and around the door. The windows were obviously rushed as the white paint was patchy and made contact with the brick around them. The windows themselves seemed decently clean unlike the large black door at the entrance. The handles were covered in fingerprints and the door itself looked unstable, like it could collapse at any moment. Sebastian went to the door and using a handkerchief opened it. The inside of the hotel was significantly better, it was brightly lit with candles and a large open fire roared in the lobby. The walls were a creamy white held up by large wooden beams. There were numerous couches all different, dotted around the lobby. To the left there was a counter with a silver bell, an ink bottle, a writing feather and piles of forms and documents. Behind the counter was rows of cabinets and a small lantern. They both walked up to the counter and rang the bell. It took a minute or two but eventually an old man about the age of 60 came out dressed in a waistcoat and a large warm smile. He was holding a pocket watch which he slipped into his pocket and faced the larger man.

Hello and welcome to the Black Thorn! Thank you for staying with us do you have a booking?" the old man looked tired and spoke with a deep, raspy voice. Sebastian gave the man their details, the man with painfully slow reflexes went to open one of the cabinets and took out some forms for Sebastian to fill out. The man then began to make small talk to pass the time.

" So young man what's your name?"

"Ciel" he replied trying desperately to not engage in any sort of conversation when he noticed Sebastian had decided to take his sweet time filling in the papers.

"Is this man your father, how old are you?" the man said again with a large warm, yet worn out, smile.

"Yes he is my son" Sebastian quickly interrupted and rubbed Ciel's head till his hair was all ruffled.

"I'm 15" Ciel continued again, fixing his hair and trying to avoid talking to the man to the best of his ability. It must have been Ciel's bad day because just at that moment a small grey tabby cat jumped onto the counter and began to rub its head on Sebastian. Completely mesmerised Sebastian began to pet the kitten, the old man then decided to join him. For what seemed like forever the two older men talked about the cat before returning to the paperwork.

"Finally!" Ciel puffed under his breath and turned to face away from the counter so the man wouldn't try to talk to him again. Sebastian handed back the paperwork and watched carefully as the man went back to a different cabinet and took out a single key.

"Unfortunately we only have a single room left so you will both have to share, I'm afraid" the man said quickly. Ciel turned around quickly. He wanted to say something but stopped himself.

"I hope you enjoy your stay, the toilet is just down the corridor to your left" Ciel remembered that poorer places such as this would have to share communal toilets, the idea of which made him feel rather sick.

They both went to the room which was horrifyingly cold compared to the rest of the inn. There were a two small beds, each covered in a thin grey blanket and a single pillow on each one. The beds were separated by a single bedside table topped with a lantern. In the corner of the room there was a desk with a candle on the far corners, the floor was covered in a cream coloured carpet and the walls were decorated with paintings of writers and playwrights. There was an ensuite with only a tin bathtub which was barely big enough for Ciel. At first Ciel wondered where the toilet was only to find a small chamber pot beneath his bed. Sebastian lay the bags by the edge of the bed and began to look through all the closets and cupboards. Everything seemed fine.
