I take my key, open my door, and go inside. I close the door and fall against it, sliding down to the floor. After a while of daydreaming, I stand up and go sit on my bed to watch TV. I'm probably never going to use the other TV. Maybe, but I doubt it. I go to the TV guide and begin to channel-surf. Tanked is on Animal Planet, Maybe I'll watch that?
I switch the channel to Animal Plannet, but there's like 2 minutes left. I switch the TV off and pick up my laptop. I guess I'll log on to Facebook. I type in my e-mail address and password and it logs me in. The website loads and I have an alert on my 'messages' icon. I click on it and see a message from my mom. It reads,
Hello, sweetie! How's your new school? Is it everything you thought it would be? Have you made any new friends? I know it's only been two days, but your father and I miss having you around. We love you and miss you. P.S. Happy Labor Day!
Sincerely- Kari and Thomas Smith or- Mom and Dad to you. :) xoxo
I smile, remembering how whenever I would even be gone at a sleepover, I'd have 4 texts from her. I write back,
Hi, Mom! Yes, I like the new school, and I have 2 new friends so far, Miranda and Nate. They're really nice. I love you, too. Tell dad I say hi!
I finish typing and hit 'send.' Then I go back to my profile. My friend from back home tagged me in a post.
Michelle Smith needs to get her laziness out of her system and send me a text! Or, comment on this...
I commented,
Can't text you at the moment... I will when I get the chance! :) <3 u, Rachel!
This made me feel good. There for a while, I thought she'd forgotten about me. Then there was a knock on my door. It wasn't locked.
"IT'S OPEN!" I yelled. Miranda pushed through the door and said,
"What's on your computer that made it so you couldn't get up and answer the freaking- OOH! Facebook! You should friend me! And Nate, too." So I typed into the search box 'Miranda Tyler' and hit 'send friend request.' then typed in 'Nate Albright.' Miranda found which one was his for me, because I, of course, would have no clue. So she handed the laptop back to me and I clicked on 'send friend request.'
"Want a Pop-Tart?" I asked. It seems I always had a stash of Hot Fudge Sundae Pop-Tarts in my cabinet.
"Ooh! What kind?" Miranda asked excitedly.
"Hot Fudge Sundae."
"Yes! You scored! Those are my favorite!"
"I'll go get the box." I say, getting up and heading towards my little kitchen area. I had to get Miranda to lock her fingers together and give me a boost up. I'm 5'4" but I still can't reach my cabinets. Oh, well. At least, last I measured I was 5'4". I might've grown.
"That's the last time I just throw anything into my cabinets." I say frustratedly after Miranda let me down.
"Good idea. I don't wanna be your personal step-stool." she said, relieving all my frustration and anger. I laughed.
"I didn't think you'd do it, anyway." I said, grinning.
"Normally, I wouldn't, but I'm kind of craving Pop-Tarts." we both laugh and I set the box on my bed. I begin clawing and prying at the box, to no avail.
"I forgot how hard Pop-Tarts boxes are to open." I say with a slight giggle in my tone. "Why won't it open?!" I ask, frantic to get it open.
"Here." Miranda offers, and I hand her the box. With a slip and slight flick, she had the box open.
"Yay!" I squeaked.
"Wanna know how I did that?" she asks with a smirk.
"Uh, yeah. It would be nice." I said.
"Just stick your fingers under and flick your wrist. works every time. Simple."
"Oh. Well, my dad taught me to just yank it really, really hard."
"Haha, I see that!"
"Was it really that funny?" I asked, blushing bright red.
"Yes, and it would've been even funnier if you actually had opened it and the pop-tarts had flown everywhere!" She responded, finally taking her package of Pop-Tarts.
"I honestly prefer Pop-Tarts over those gross pillsbury thingies. Pop-Tarts have more frosting!" I said, and in return Miranda gave me a high-five.
This was how we spent the rest of the day, giggling about boys and complaining about how Pop-Tarts are better than Pillsbury Toaster Struedel. I can't believe I originally didn't want to be Miranda's friend! What was I thinking? She's awesome!
