*From Vardin: I had a lot of fun writing Chapter 6. But it's a tough act to follow. Chapter 7 is all about the girls. No notti bits! The title came from a super old song. I wanted some inspiration so I youtubed for a song about sisters, and found "Sister" by Irving Berlin.*
If not for the sore feeling between my legs reminding me of my first earthly copulation, I would have soared all the way home. Ethan and I had shared something incredible, even if it wasn't as mind-blowing as I'd thought it would be.
But if you were to ask me if I regreted losing my virginity, I wouldn't be able to give you a straight answer. I definitely wanted my first time to have been with Ethan, but whether it felt right, I wasn't very sure. All I knew was that... I wanted us to DTR. I didn't want some stupid "friends with benefits" shit with him. I craved much more.
Ethan offered to send me home. While I appreciated the offer, I was like, no way! Because the second I left his apartment, my fingers were already flying over my iPhone.
"Come over. NOW! I CD. LML." (Note here: CD is short for Carpe Diem, our own secret code word for having "seized the day", ever since a substitute made us watch "Dead Poets Society" instead of actually bothering to teach English class.)
She immediately texted me back. "YOLO? LMK! Coming, sis."
It was so ironic that Amy called me sis, because what did I see the minute I reached my room? My own blood sister rummaging through my gear like a common thief. Her back was towards me, hands deep inside my window seat.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" I screamed, arms akimbo. Qin stilled. Turning slowly, she looked into my furious face, as she replied in her calm and mild voice,"looking for evidence."
"Of what, you cow?" I am sorry for insulting all bovines, but Qin really acts like she is chewing cud, the way she talks.
"That you are having sex."
My face flushed immediately. Hopefully she mistook it for fury.
"What has that got to do with you?"
"I am your older sister. It is my job to protect you." She crossed the room towards me, her expression preplexed, but her voice composed and serene.
"I am touched." I said, looking anything but. "Now buzz off."
"I am not going to stand by and watch you to continue to make mistakes. What do you know about that man next door? Do you know about his past? His background? Why is he hanging out with you, instead of a woman his own age? Do you think you have a future together? He is going to go home to Germany eventually."
Chest felt tight. Jaw tensed. My hands clenched into fists. Why did Captain Obvious have to list out all my secret fears? She thought she was helping me, but instead she was making me feel incredibly stupid, as usual.
"Shut up." I squeaked, my voice high-pitched. "You know nothing."
So did I. I barely knew anything about Ethan.
I thought I was going to break down and cry, when Amy appeared. Thankfully.
"Hey! You guys know that your front door is unlocked....what is going on?" Amy stood between us, comparing my upset countenance and Qin's worried one.
"Speak to her, Amy. Mai needs to wake up her idea. She can be so naive sometimes." Qin shook her head and walked out. Amy raised a quizzical brow and twisted her lips to one side as she pondered that statement.
"I don't get it why you two are always at loggerheads. It's moments like this I am grateful I am an only child," she said finally, shaking her head.
