Jonathan
I still remember my life as Lucas.
Victoria and I, and how that morning's events led to me losing her.As a child, I thought that I was going crazy, those memories haunting me in my dreams, never changing.
My mother, Evelyn, in her clairvoyance had felt that those memories are indeed mine - from a life I had before this, and helped me to accept and embrace them.
"Don't let your past define who you are, love." She said one night "You might've been Lucas, but you are Jonathan now. Learn from it and focus on the good memories of that life."
And that was it.
Little by little, those memories stopped bringing me guilt, but instead brought me longing for the woman I loved.
Even as a child I knew that she's the only one for me, of my memories are anything to go by. And that one day, fate will bring us together.
"Ivan!"
I called out to my older brother as I saw him standing outside his office doors.
Despite inheriting Mother's gift, he felt that being a Psychiatrist would do him and other people good, rather than knowing things he shouldn't be privy to.
I stopped in my tracks the moment I saw that he wasn't alone.
He must've had an appointment today.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you," I held out my hand to her, "I'm Jonathan, Dr. David's younger brother."
For a moment she just stared at my outstretched hand.
"Jonathan. "
Ivan warned me against engaging his patients, and I've always did as he instructed, it's just that...
Victoria.
Long red waves framed her face. Her rosy cheeks and full lips made her look more radiant.
She looks just like her.
Could it be?Emerald eyes met mine.
Looking between my brother and I, she looked uncomfortable as I openly stared at her."I'm sorry, I didn't know that you-"
"I'm Cara."
I was surprised and relieved. I thought I had scared her of.
"What?""Cara. My name is Cara. It's nice to meet you, Jonathan."
I smiled to myself.
I've been searching for so long.
Now fate had me this meeting possible. My brother cleared his throats and led me to his office, away from Cara.
"Jonathan, let's get inside. Cara."Cara smiled.
"Goodbye Dr. David, Jonathan."She eyed me one last time, a look of curiosity in her face as I watched her walk out the door.
I've found her.
I stared at her until she finally disappeared out of sight.
Back in the office, i found Ivan pacing in front of his desk.
"Jonathan," Ivan, motioned for me to take a seat. "What brings you here?"
"Can't I just visit my big brother without getting psycho-analyzed?"
I stood up and went to the corner cabinets where he keeps his bourbon, and poured one for myself."Hey," I turned to Ivan "Who was that girl just now?"
"That was Cara. She introduced herself to you."
"Yeah, but why is she here?"
Ivan, however, was not convinced.
"Stop making small talk. What was that Jonathan! Also, you can't hit on my patients. You know that.""Besides,"
He stood and went towards me "You never visit me Jon." He took my glass and drank it on one go. "Something must be up."
I walked towards the windows and slid the heavy curtains out of the way.
Clutching the address to my new apartment, I stood outside my brother's office to wait for a cab.
When I finally managed to get ahold of one, it was already getting dark.We rode in silence. I noticed that we got further and further into the heart of the city.
Forehead pressed against the cab window, I couldn't help but think back to the young woman I met earlier.
Cara.
What a curious name.
