Do you need a lover?
This thought has been nagging in the back of my mind since many days. Do you NEED a lover? So if you don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend would you die due to shortage of oxygen?
Since the 'misunderstandings' with a close friend of mine, I have pondered over this a lot. Basically almost all of our friends are committed except for me and her of course. She makes such a big issue out of it- crying, nagging, complaining, self-deprecating, prying for sympathy and what not! So many times I had played the role of her counsellor that along the way it was me who realized that a lover is not your ultimate goal. I agree that a true lover plays a significant role in one's life and can prove to be the backbone. But what if you still haven't found them? Would you make your life and the life of the people around you a living hell? Well, my friend did the exact same. After a certain point the water level rose above our head, suffocating us and then that led to the inevitable 'arguments'.
You cannot love someone else when you haven't yet learned to embrace yourself and your faults. I agree, some partners help to make this process of loving yourself way lot easier. But finding such people is very rare. Till you find your The One, why not be contended with what you already have? Think about it, if you have a roof above your head and atleast one family member or friend who loves you unconditionally, you are at a far better place than the majority of people. The popular saying which goes like 'I complained that I had no shoes, until I met someone with no legs'. Since he has legs and no shoes doesn't mean that his blisters aren't a real problem. Of course they are. But whining about it will not help. Instead you should find a way to tackle that issue and if you can't change it, then accept it.
If you have recognised your goals, work your ass off at achieving them and if you haven't, let yourself free and discover more about your likes and dislikes and discover what your goals are. Rest other things of the universe will fall into their places when the perfect time comes.
