"Hi, honey, how was school?" Elise's Mother greeted her as soon as she came in the front door and ditched her tote bag in the hall closet.

"School was school" she shrugged "same as every year. I got Mr. Walker for English"

Bonnie groaned "The douche who gave Lucas a D on a report just because he used the wrong sized and kind of font or whatever?" she asked.

Mr. Walker gave Lucas, an A+ student, a D on his report on the Great Gatsby because he claimed 'the type of font that was used impaired his ability to correctly read and enjoy the paper'. Total bullshit, really. Mr. Walker was just a whiny loser who liked making people feel awful about their lives.

Elise nodded "That's the one. He's a bit crazy, and I think I gave him an aneurysm ten minutes into the class. He's unstable and definitely a million kinds of nutso"

Bonnie raised an eyebrow "Please don't get suspended again, El. I don't think it's wise if you want to go to college"

Elise smirked and shrugged "Dad can just compel me into whatever school I want"

"That isn't how it works. You need to work for your spot in whatever school you choose to go to, we aren't going to give you a free pass on this. Besides, if he compels you in, what are the chances you'll pass all your classes or please all the professors? You cannot breeze by in life; you have to work for it. It'll feel that much better when you get wherever you're going all by yourself" Bonnie said strictly. Elise knew her Mom would say something like that, and just nodded in reply.

"I know Mom, don't worry. Is it okay if I go to the mall with Klara?" Elise asks, looking down at the text Klara sent her.

Bonnie sighed and nodded, smiling at her daughter. "Have fun, and be home for dinner"

"He actually complimented me!" Elise squealed, as she and Klara ventured through American eagle.

"He never does that, ever" Klara said, picking up some skinny jeans.

"I know!" Elise exclaimed happily, as Klara paid for her jeans "It was like for the first freaking time, he noticed me!"

Klara nodded absently, as they left the store and headed over to another. "Yup"

Elise frowned, kinda pissed with her friend's lack of enthusiasm. "Are you okay? You seem kinda floaty or whatever. Like you're not paying attention"

Klara sighed "Ricky is a player, Lise. He isn't going to give many girls a second glance, and if he does he always hurts them. Just because you've known him longer and better than the other girls doesn't make you any different than them"

Elise, who was kind of offended by this, raised an eyebrow. "You're my best friend; you're supposed to be happy for me"

Klara rolled her eyes "Yes, and because I'm your best friend I'll also have to sit with you in a pile of ice cream, sad movies and tears when he breaks your heart. I'm just saying it would be wise to not get all worked up over Ricky freaking Saltzman. He isn't anything special and he isn't God's gift to women"

"Whatever, Klar. Call me when you're off your period, I'm gonna head over to Greyson's" Elise muttered, leaving her friend in the middle of the store.

She was pissed for one thing, that Klara couldn't even try to be happy for her for two damn seconds. It wasn't Klara's place to tell her who was and wasn't worth her time, and it was annoying that she always thought it was. As much as Elise loved her, she was a pain in the ass when she wanted to be.

Deciding to hang out with Greyson, who was her best guy friend and literally the best person ever, Elise headed over to her Aunt Elena's house. She didn't really feel like talking boys or about Klara, she just wanted to sit and chill out after the day's events. Greyson was her go-to guy for these types of moods. Even though he was great to talk to an amazing to get advice from, he was the type of friend who didn't ask questions when you came into his house, raided the fridge and turned on a movie. He just sat with you and handed you the spoon to the ice cream you were packing down.

Since her Aunt was at work, Elise just barged on in and made her way to the freezer. She pulled out some cookie dough ice cream and spoons along with the whipped cream and caramel sauce.

"Grey, I'm here!" she called out, making her way to the living room to turn on a movie and just exist for the next two hours.

"You okay?" he asked, thumping down the stairs with a concerned look on his face.

Elise shrugged and patted the spot next to her on the couch. "I had a shit day and now I need some best friend ice cream and cuddles"

Greyson laughed and joined her on the couch, texting something quickly to whoever had been chatting with him.

"I really hope I didn't intrude. Did you have plans?" Elise asked, it dawning on her that he might have had plans for the night that she'd just corrupted.

Greyson shrugs and grabs a spoon, settling in to the corner of the couch as Elise stretched her legs over his lap. "I was going to go out with Chloe Donovan, but it's no problem. I rescheduled for tomorrow night"

Elise raised an eyebrow; she'd never known that Greyson had a thing for Chloe. In some ways, it made her a little jealous that her best friend was making other friends that had the potential to replace her, but in other ways it made her happy for Greyson. He was a really sweet and cute guy, and the friendship they had was something amazing. He deserved the best.

But she was still kind of jealous. Chloe was one of those girls everyone was jealous of. She had long, golden blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She had a pretty smile and a cute laugh and dimples that made her look that much cuter. She was petite, opposed to Elise's tall and slender frame, and was pretty much every guy's definition of beautiful. She was on the swim team, so she was always tanned and toned, she ran the children's play group after school, volunteered at the seniors centre on weekends and wasn't a smartass or a rebel like Elise. She was pretty much the exact opposite of Elise, and everyone seemed to love her.

"I didn't know you and Chloe were friends" Elise said tightly. She was trying to be happy for her friend, but it was kind of hard when he was talking about the one girl everyone either wanted to kill or wanted to be.

Greyson laughed "Ellie, don't worry. You'll always be my number one" Elise noted how he knew her so well, that he picked up on her jealousy with just one sentence spoken.

"She's beautiful, Grey. She's everyone's number one" Elise sighed.

Greyson looked at Elise, and she noticed that his eyes were a shade lighter as the got to the middle, almost like melting chocolate.

"She is beautiful" he agreed "but you're gorgeous"

Smiling, Elise leaned in to cuddle Greyson and continue sulking and eating, while being pissed at Klara and head over heels for Ricky.

"I'm glad that she won't outrank me. I need you to deal with me when everyone else won't"

Greyson laughed "Of course, Ellie, of course"
