"Hey, Mia." He smiled nicely.
"Hi, Jon." I returned the smile, and then we left to his car.
We sat awkwardly, and he drove in silence. He turned on the radio, to break the silence. This is going to be a long ride.
He began quietly singing to a song, and I watched his facial expressions from the corner of my eye, not to be obvious about me watching him. He started singing a little louder, and scrunching his face for the higher notes.
I began reminiscing about the times I'd watch him sing, while cooking or doing homework or even clean. His voice was just perfect, and clean, and smooth. I loved how he could go low or go high.
I hadn't noticed the song had already, and he was looking at me, we were at a stop light, and he looked concerned. "You okay, Mia?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I stated,"Why?"
"You kind of zoned out." He chuckled slightly, and then faced the road again, driving.
I looked out the window and watched all the buildings and trees pass.
The car stopped in front of a small café, and we got out. Jon walked beside me, as we neared the door. As a gentlemen, he opened the door for me, and we went for a table.
We got one close to the back, and sat down. I looked around, observing the place, which I had never been to.
"So, Mia, how's it been?" He started with such a simple question, but yet it messed with me.
How've I been for the past five years, is all he wants to know. But, I can't find what to say.
"It's been," I paused, shrugging,"Okay, I guess."
"That's good." It was quiet for a moment,"How's Chelsea?" He asked.
"She's good." I smiled slightly.
"Who's she dating now?" He smiled.
"She's with Troy again." I said.
"Troy? Like THE Troy?" Jon asked.
"Yeah." I smiled, and we both chuckled, remembering some times from college. "So, how long have you and Rylie been together?" I asked, awkwardly.
"Maybe six months or so." He shrugged, looking down at his hands, avoiding eye contact.
The waiter comes, and hands us menus, and we told her what we'd like to drink, and she leaves.
We look through the menus in silence.
When the waiter comes back, we told her our order and she leaves with the menus, and once again it's silent.
I break it,"How'd you meet Rylie?" I asked.
"At my job. She was a daily customer." He said, playing with his straw, he then looks at me, directly, and asks,"You have anyone?"
"No, not now, anyways." I looked away. I haven't dated anyone but since the accident, I didn't want to be broken again.
"Oh," Jon mumbles, but I couldn't look at him, I just messed around with my fork and napkin.
"So where are you working now?" I asked.
"I work at Starbucks." He shrugged,"It's not a good job, but it pays pretty good." He explained, and I bucked up and looked at him.
We stared into each other's eyes for a while. A smile grew on each of our faces'. Our moment continued until the waiter returned with our food.
Throughout the dinner, we talked memories and what we've done for the past years, and what were doing now.
The night came to and end, and I was sad to leave his side. He pulled the car up to my house, and we looked at each other.
"I'll walk you to your door." Jon smiled, and we both exited. We Got to my door, and faced each other.
"Welp, this is cliché." He said, and we both laughed.
"It was goo seeing you again." I smile widely.
"You, too." He smiled, wider than I.
He started for a hug, but I stopped him, by grabbing his hand, and shaking it,"Goodnight, Jon."
He looked a little hurt, but he covered it with a fake smile,"Night, Mia." And he turned and walked back to his car.
I didn't regret the choice of not hugging him, I can't fall back in love with him.
One, he has a girlfriend.
Two, he broke my heart.
And three, I just can't!
