You turned the lights off in your office, made sure the doors were locked and went in the elevator before going outside the company. You sat down on a bench in the company parking lot and tapped your heeled-feet excitedly as you hummed a melody in your head. You waited for your fiancé, Seunghyun, to arrive since he had promised to pick you up from work.
As you were waiting with a grin on your face, you felt a slight motion protruded from the bench. You rotated your head to the side and recognized the petite man with curly black hair and thick glasses sitting not too far from you. You quickly stood up and greeted him before engaging in a minimal conversation with the stoic and silent man.
"What's a lady like you doing out here all alone?" He finally spoke up, his voice pitched but monotonous. You glanced at him, raising your eyebrows as if you were witnessing something rare happening in front of you. Which you were, and that was Mr. Max "Stoic" Campbell talking.
You were lost in thought before he cleared his throat and woke you up from your daze. "Oh, uh, I'm waiting for someone." You answered before glancing at him. He nodded at you firmly and transferred his gaze to the front. It was so quiet between the two of you that you could hear flies batting their wings.
The moment you glanced back at him, you felt like you were falling off a cliff. His figure suddenly nearing you frightened you so much that you almost fell off the bench. He stared at you with the same emotionless expression he had. "There's a bug on your shirt." He said, retaining the monotony in his voice. You scrambled and swiped your hands on different corners of your shirt, but he inched even closer to you which really surprised you. "Let me do it." He simply said before reaching his hand over. You waited for him to swat the bug away but all you heard was a hiss from him. Apparently, a very familiar cane had hit his hand away. Max had jumped up from where he was sitting and you almost burst out laughing from what you had witnessed.
"What are you doing with my fiancée?" You heard that beautiful voice which brings you all the warmth and calmness in the world. You shifted your gaze to him and caught him wearing his favorite velvet tuxedo, and he had his hair fixed in a really fancy manner. Your eyes stopped on his and you know one thing's for sure. He's angry.
You saw Max just stare at your fiancé and Seunghyun being an overprotective man that he glared at Max. "Don't you have anything better to do than flirt with my woman?" You gulped when you saw the way Seunghyun stared at Max. His expression looked like he was ready to kill Max right that moment. Seunghyun slowly turned the wheels of his chair, cautiously going in circles around Max, as if warning him.
You were fazed with what he said. Of course, your fiancé had just disgraced and seemed to threaten the son of the company's CEO. It might cost you your job, which is the only financial foundation you have. You rashly stepped in front of Seunghyun and stared at him warily. "S-Seunghyun, stop. H-He's the son of the CEO." You muttered under your breath and lowered your head when you heard him scoff.
"I don't care whose son he is! Let's get out of here before I might kill this idiot." He exclaimed furiously but not before he wheeled his chair towards Max and ran over his foot. The ride home was eerily silent that his heavy breathing could be heard loud and clear. You arrived home, not speaking to each other. Both of you decided to skip dinner and just went to bed right away.
Your backs were facing each other and you were on the edge of the bed while he was on the other side. You decided to just break the ice andlet your walls down. "Seunghyun, please don't misunderstand it. I was waiting for you and he showed up. A bug was on my shirt and he tried to swat it away and that was when you came in. That's all. You trust me, right?" You waited for him to speak his mind, but you heard no answer. Seunghyun was awfully quiet. "Why aren't you talking? Don't you trust me?" This time, you were facing his back and your shivering hands wrapped themselves around his warm ones. Tears were threatening to fall off your eyes but you bit them back as much as possible. You didn't want to seem weak in his presence.
Hearing his muffled cries felt like your world had just collapsed. You turned him around so that he was facing you and you couldn't help but let your tears fall. "It's all my fault..." He said, shaking his head in frustration. "If it wasn't for me not being able to walk then you wouldn't have as much problems as you're having now. You would be able to enjoy your life without worrying about a crippled fiancé. You would be able to go anywhere, climb any mountain and swim any ocean if it weren't for me... I guess I'm just really scared that you might leave me for someone much better, someone not as crippled and disabled as I am..." He said, more tears escaping his eyes as he heaved and exhausted sigh.
"No, Seunghyun. There are more things to life than just climbing mountains and swimming on oceans. Having you in my life made me realize that the little things in life are what we should be living for. Without you, I wouldn't be able to know how beautiful the sunset actually is, how fun it is to just read each other poems until our eyes are sore, how overwhelming it actually feels to have someone like you in my life. I don't regret anything." You answered him as you stared intently at his eyes.
"You always catch me off guard. I love you." He whispered, his voice wavered from crying but his tone of voice and the look on his eyes seemed really serious. A few moments, his mouth pulled up into a knowing smile and other was as if everything was back to the way it really was. No more jealous and doubtful Seunghyun. It was only the Seunghyun that loved you more than anything in the world. He gently held your face closer to his and kissed you, a smile tugging on his lips.
