"Wash this for me, you hear? This should be cleaned and dried by tonight!" You caught the pair of green heeled shoes that your stepsister, Drizella, chucked at you, which should you mention almost landed on your face.
"Mine too! And don't forget to look for my earrings! I'm sure I dropped it somewhere in this house." Your other step-sister, Anastasia, yelped at you before yanking the door shut. You stared at them through the window and saw one of the servants preparing the carriage.
"Come on, girls. Let's get you dresses for tonight's ball." Your stepmother hauled them to get inside the carriage and they went galloping excitedly. Did I hear her right? There's a ball tonight? I might be hearing things again. The following words that came out of your step-sisters mouths proved that you really weren't hearing things.
"Ah, I can't wait to see the prince and dance with him. Stay out of my way, Drizella." Anastasia sighed dreamily before scowling at her sister.
Drizella let out a fowl snicker before glaring at her sister. "I'll make sure to trip you at the ballroom, Anastasia."
When their carriage was already meters away from the mansion, you quickly danced your way to your quarters while humming a melody. You told your little friends about the ball and they were even nice enough to help you make a dress which was finished right when your stepmother and step-sisters arrived from the dressmaker's store. You took out your mother's favorite shoes which you kept safely in a wooden box. You slipped the pink dress on carefully along with the shoes and slung a blue-beaded necklace on your neck. You turned to the mirror and looked at yourself. Hmmm. There seems to be something missing. You spotted a strip of spare cloth lying on the floor and picked it up. You tied it on your hair so that it would look like a ribbon. You looked yourself in the mirror for the last time before dashing out of your quarters with a satisfied smile on your lips.
You ran down the stares, cautiously lifting your dress up to prevent yourself from stepping on it. They were about to leave for the night before you called out to them. "Wait! I'm coming with you!" You exclaimed excitedly. They stopped in their tracks and glanced at you, obviously taken aback.
Suddenly, a laugh escaped your stepmother's mouth as she eyed you rudely. "But you didn't even get an invitation, dear."
"Aren't all women in town invited?" You answered her knowingly. You were about to step out the door to get inside the carriage but she halted you.
"Well, that. The invitation stated that only decent women are invited and you're not even close enough to decent. You're a maid." She grimaced and you could feel her eyes staring down at you. You knew that she was clearly lying but it was too late for you to protest. You felt two pairs of hands tug strongly on your dress and the next thing you know, it's already torn to pieces. The beads of your necklace were also sprawled on the floor. "Good night, dear." Your stepmother devilishly said before following your two step-sisters to the carriage. You could hear the horse's hooves getting fainter and fainter. You were too shocked to even react and when you did, you ran to the fountain. Tears were continuously pouring out of your eyes as you wished that your mother and father were still with you. You didn't think that your stepmother and step-sister's would actually treat you like this.
You were having an emotional monologue in your mind when you felt a light tap on your shoulder. You turned your head and saw a woman in front of you. She wore pastel colored clothes and had a small pink staff in her hand. She looked like she was in her teens. You took a step back, surprised by her sudden appearance. "Don't worry about a thing. I saw everything that your evil stepmother and step-sisters did to you. I swear, I've always wanted to poof them out of this world." She said, rolling her eyes as she said the last sentence. Your eyes widened in confusion at what she said.
Her tone of voice suddenly shifted to a cheerful one. "Anyway, I'm Sana, your fairy godmother. Well, more like godsister." She introduced, smiling widely at you. "I know you want to go to the ball so bad, so I'm here to make that happen!" She jumped up and down like a child, giggling as she did.
"How can I even go to the ball wearing this?" You covered your face with your hands to muffle your cries.
"There, there. That's why I'm here." She chided, patting your back gently. "Now, stand up." She ordered, hoisting you up. You weakly followed her and wiped your tear-stained face. "Now, turn around around." You obediently followed and slowly turned yourself around. You heard a gasp from her. "I got it!" She exclaimed gladly. With a wave of her wand, you were lifted to the air and gold sparkles were all over you. You shut your eyes, scared. The moment you opened your eyes, you saw that your body was engulfed by a ruby red toned dress that reached your ankles. When you looked down, you were suprised to see the red glass slippers that hugged your feet. Your curly brown hair had a french braid on top and you had a silver necklace hanging on your neck.
"How did you do this?" You managed to ask in utter disbelief. She folded her arms across her chest and examined you carefully as she nodded in satisfaction.
"You look perfect! Everyone will be staring at you like you're walking down the red carpet. You'll get all the women frustrated." She said, clasping her hands together. "Now, have a great time out there. I'm sure you'll catch the Prince's eye. Take his breath away and make his heart race. There's no time to be shy, shy, shy. Just thinking about it makes me feel so excited!" She added as you looked down to the ground. A giggle escaped her lips. She glanced at her watch and almost jumped up in surprise. She pushed you towards a carriage that surely wasn't there before.
Just when you were about to enter the carriage, you gave her a tight hug. "Thank you for this, Sana! I love it!" She looked taken aback but she still returned the hug anyway.
"Before I forget, you should be back here exactly by 12 o'clock midnight. The spell would be gone by then. Enjoy the night!" She bid goodbye as she shut the carriage door. She waved at you from the fountain and you gladly waved back.
