I walk into the house clutching my brown paper bag.
"Dad?" I call into the seemingly empty house.
" I come bearing gifts!"
Still no reply.
"Hello? Anyone home?"
I walk up the stair case to the second floor and look around.
When I walk into my room, I notice a note taped to my mirror. I rip it off and look down at my fathers sprawled out script.
Took taxi to the car dealership to get a rental. Be back in a few hours. Love you.
With dad gone for the next few hours, I decide to start unpacking my things and maybe grab a taxi to the supermarket to get some groceries.
Once I have my mind made up, I go back downstairs to the kitchen and eat my breakfast I brought from the cafe in silence.
I was kind of looking forward to eating with my dad, it's been a while since we've done so. Sitting alone in here brings back too many memories, memories I'd rather not remember.
Eating my meals on the kitchen island just to avoid the fighting going on the dining room. Before she left us, my mom used to fight constantly with my dad.
Being a kid, I tried to avoid listening to it as much as I could. That didn't mean I succeeded though.
Before I can stop them, tears are streaming down my face, reliving those times I will remember forever.
"Morganne?"
I look up and see Niall standing directly above me. I didn't even hear him come in.
I quickly try to wipe my wet cheeks from the tears that are falling heavily.
"What is it? Are you alright?" He asks me, concern thick in his voice.
"Oh yeah, yeah I'm fine." I look away, trying to hide from his bright blue, piercing gaze.
"You don't look fine."
"It's just things from the past. They shouldn't bother me anymore."
"But they do." He presses. "Do you wanna talk about it?"
I shake my head no and he smiles understandingly.
God! How is he still so kind to me! After how I left without saying goodbye?
He's Niall, that's how.
"Did you need something?" I say after I realize I have been sitting here silently for the past minute.
"Well I was gona invite you to this big beach bonfire thing going on tonight but if you're not up for it-"
"No," I cut him off "I'd love too."
"Great!" He says, obviously pleased by my reply which makes me smile.
"It starts at like 8 but you can really come whenever."
"Okay" I tell him as I walk him to the door.
"Bye Morganne" He says to me as he walks out.
"Bye." I say back, "Oh and Niall?"
He turns.
"Thanks for stopping by." And much to my surprise, I mean it.
Niall shoots me a big grin as I close the door.
